Everyone is a reader, with a scholarly charm everywhere

Recently, two book markets opened in two different locations, echoing each other and creating a lively atmosphere. The first Northeast Book Trading Expo, with the theme of "Meeting Auspicious Places and Enjoying the Book Fragrance Together," attracted more than 600 domestic publishing and distribution units to showcase over 400000 types of publications in Changchun, Jilin. Nearly 4 million people visited the exhibition online and offline, and the ink fragrance condensed their popularity. Another book market with the theme of "making books" was held in Beijing, which became a date for bookmakers and readers, adding a beautiful scenery to early summer Beijing. Offline readers are enthusiastic about visiting book exhibitions, while online book lectures are lively and colorful. Everyone is a reader, and there is a fragrance of books everywhere. Reading for all is becoming a trend, and the land of China is filled with the fragrance of books. Books are the carrier of human knowledge, the crystallization of human wisdom, and the ladder of human progress. The development of individuals and the progress of society cannot be separated from the support of knowledge and wisdom. The process of human civilization development and progress is also a continuous accumulation of knowledge. In 1972, UNESCO launched an initiative to move towards a reading society worldwide. Personally, reading is the key to infinite possibilities, allowing us to gain rich life experiences. From a social perspective, promoting universal reading and building a scholarly society are related to the progress of technology, cultural inheritance, and spiritual shaping. A society full of books will also provide broader space for personal development. Since 2014, "National Reading" has been included annually in the Government Work Report. From "advocating for universal reading" to "deepening the promotion of universal reading" and then to "deepening the activities of universal reading", it fully reflects the increasing emphasis of the Party and the state on the work of universal reading. Nowadays, reading for all has become a national development strategy, and meticulous top-down planning and specific arrangements have gradually been implemented. In recent years, governments at all levels, publishing companies, and bookstores of all sizes have actively participated in and supported the construction of a bookish China. By the end of 2023, the Beijing Urban Library, which has a collection of over 8 million books and approximately 2400 reading seats, will be completed and opened to the public by the Dayun River in Tongzhou, Beijing. This world's largest single reading room has not only become a check-in spot for Beijing citizens, but also opened up a wonderful reading journey for many readers. At the end of last year, Xiamen, Fujian Province publicly announced 22 support projects for 18 private physical bookstores in Xiamen, including rent subsidies, branch construction subsidies, and project subsidies. Since the launch of the support policy in 2014, Xiamen has benefited 136 bookstores and 158 projects. The relevant measures have greatly promoted the development of local bookstores and enriched the cultural life of citizens. Not only Xiamen, but in recent years, similar bookstore support policies have been implemented and borne fruit in many places such as Baoding in Hebei, Zigong in Sichuan, and Hangzhou in Zhejiang. Specific and practical policies such as funding subsidies, tax reductions, and entrepreneurship training are being implemented to benefit the people, contributing to the construction of a scholarly society and allowing citizens to "smell" the fragrance of books right out of their homes. The 21st National Reading Survey Report released by the China Academy of Press and Publication on World Book Day this year shows that in the past year, diversified public reading service facilities have provided reading convenience for urban residents, and the satisfaction rate of urban residents with the use of public libraries has reached 78.7%. The report also shows that adults have a participation rate of 67.5% in national reading brand activities, such as browsing book fairs and participating in reading competitions. On the weekend, I went to the bookstore to buy my favorite books such as "Winter Pasture", and sat at home to participate in the new book launch event of "Looking Forward to Chang'an" through my mobile phone. At the book exhibition, I met Liang Xiaosheng, the author of "The World"... Nowadays, the form and connotation of reading are constantly enriched, and it is becoming a way of life. The fragrance of books fills the city and moistens people's hearts. Continuously deepening the nationwide reading, making the atmosphere of "love reading, read good books, and be good at reading" stronger, cultural confidence more firm, and the power of striving for a new journey more majestic.
