Since the beginning of this year, thanks to innovative competition rules, joyful competition atmosphere, and consecutive events, the unique sports activity "Auntie Basketball" created by ethnic minority women in Leishan County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province has received a lot of attention. Shi Fang, Director of Leishan County Sports Management Center, introduced that "Auntie Basketball" has enriched the lives of ethnic minority women, brought them confidence and happiness, and also provided them with a platform and opportunities to showcase themselves and make friends. In the development process of "Auntie Basketball", some ethnic minority women have completed the identity transformation from participants to promoters. Miao girl Wu Zhenli is from Langde Town, Leishan County. The basketball atmosphere in the village is strong, and she started playing basketball in the third and fourth grades of elementary school. After graduating from university in 2023, Wu Zhenli returned to her hometown and is currently a self media blogger. Opening the social media account she and her friends co operated, you can see many videos documenting their participation in the "Auntie" basketball game. "About 10 years ago, the village started playing 'Auntie Basketball'." Wu Zhenli said that she has also started playing "Auntie Basketball" in the past two years and has made it one of the creative themes of her self media account, hoping to let more people understand the unique culture of her hometown. "The rules of 'Auntie Basketball' may seem simple, but playing it is actually tiring, but also very enjoyable. During this year's Spring Festival, Xijiang Village in Leishan County spontaneously held a 'Auntie' basketball competition, which attracted 75 villages in the county to sign up for the competition.". Yang Shengqin, the women's director of Xijiang Village, participated in the event preparation. She is also a basketball enthusiast and started playing basketball in the first year of junior high school. Yang Shengqin said that Xijiang Village has been hosting its "Auntie" basketball tournament since 2017. "We play basketball every holiday, and some women who don't know how to play basketball also want to participate.". Yang Ting, the women's director of Zhangpai Village in Datang Town, Leishan County, has also participated in the preparation of the village's "Auntie" basketball game multiple times. Every holiday, she would notify the women in the village and organize everyone to sign up for the competition. "There are three natural villages in our village. If there are fewer participants, they will be grouped based on the village, and if there are more people, they will be grouped based on the family." Yang Ting said that neighboring villages will stagger the activity time to invite each other to participate and promote communication between each other. Ren Fuzhi, a villager from Zhangpai Village, has been playing "Auntie Basketball" for more than 10 years. She and her family moved to live in Leishan County many years ago. In her spare time, she will accompany her children to the court to play basketball. When the village holds a basketball game, she will rush back to participate, about three or four times a year. In her view, "Auntie basketball" has become a link between the village and the people, enhancing everyone's cohesion. Yang Shengqin introduced that during the process of participating in the "Auntie" basketball game, some women who originally did not know how to play basketball were exposed to and learned about basketball, and even learned some basketball skills, and could play regular basketball games. "It's great to see 'Auntie Basketball' receiving so much attention and love from people." Yang Ting said. (Lai Xin She)
