According to the monthly report and data statistics released by the Swift, in April 2024, the renminbi maintained its position as the fourth most active currency in the world in the global payment currency ranking based on amount statistics, accounting for 4.52%. In terms of quantity, compared to March 2024, the total amount of RMB payments decreased by 3.07%, while the total amount of all currency payments increased by 0.58%. According to Swift data, in April 2024, the US dollar, euro, and pound sterling ranked among the top three major currencies in terms of payment amounts, accounting for 47.31%, 22.55%, and 6.84%, respectively. The Japanese yen remained in fifth place, accounting for 3.97%. In addition, if international payments outside the eurozone are used as the statistical basis, the Chinese yuan ranks fifth in the current month, accounting for 3.08%. Since November 2023, the proportion of global payments made by the Chinese yuan has surpassed the Japanese yen and risen to the fourth most active currency in the world, reaching this level for the sixth consecutive month.
