2024-05-23
On the north bank of the Yellow River, in Ruicheng County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, at the border of Qin, Jin, and Yu provinces, Yongle Palace, the largest surviving Taoist temple in China, is known as the "Oriental Art Gallery" for its murals. On the 22nd, representatives of overseas Chinese media from countries and regions such as the United States, France, Sweden, Italy, and Argentina walked into this place. In early summer, the red walls and green tiles of the Yongle Palace are nestled among the green pine and cypress trees. The architecture and murals of the Yuan Dynasty complement each other, and overseas Chinese media representatives are amazed by the history and culture carried by this artistic treasure. On that day, the "Walking in Hedong, Cultural Relics Protection in Yuncheng" overseas Chinese media trend gathering event was held in Yuncheng. In early summer, the red walls and green tiles of the Yongle Palace are nestled among the green pines and cypresses, and the architecture and murals of the Yuan Dynasty complement each other. Zhang Liang, the president of the World Calligraphers and Painters Newspaper, is here to appreciate the charm of mural art, describing his feelings as "shocking". "This is a cultural treasure and a historical echo.". The Yongle Palace was built from the early 13th century to the 14th century, with a history of over 700 years. The existing mural area is 1005.68 square meters, mainly distributed in one gate, three halls, and four Yuan Dynasty buildings. One gate is the Wuji Gate, also known as the Dragon and Tiger Hall; The three halls are Sanqing Hall, Chunyang Hall, and Chongyang Hall. The murals of Yongle Palace were painted slightly earlier than the European Renaissance period, almost always during the Yuan Dynasty. "The murals in Yongle Palace were painted slightly earlier than the European Renaissance period, almost always during the Yuan Dynasty. It is an inheritance and improvement of the painting tradition of the Tang and Song dynasties, with a precise dating and the name of the painter." Zhang Qing, director of the Propaganda Department of the Yongle Palace mural protection research institute, introduced. Entering the Sanqing Hall, the "Chaoyuan Map" with a total length of 97 meters and an average height of 4.4 meters is painted on three mountain walls in the east, north, and west. Zhang Qing told reporters that the murals in Yongle Palace are particularly exquisite in the "Chaoyuan Painting" of the Sanqing Hall. Its composition is grand and the brushstrokes are smooth, with 290 deities standing side by side, and the attire and demeanor are different, with few similarities. "It represents the highest achievement of murals in the Yuan Dynasty and is also the largest ancient Chinese figure painting known to date.". The murals of Yongle Palace depict hundreds of characters with different clothing and expressions, with very few similarities. The original site of Yongle Palace is located in Yongle Town, near the Yellow River, Ruicheng County. More than 60 years ago, due to its location in the submerged area of the Sanmenxia Reservoir project, the overall architecture and murals of Yongle Palace were relocated to the north of its current location in Ruicheng County. Zhang Qing introduced, "This has opened the way for the relocation and protection of large ancient Chinese buildings and murals, truly achieving the original appearance unchanged and seamless. It has accumulated and provided valuable experience for the future relocation of historical and cultural heritage." An art scholar once recited a poem praising this, "In the past twenty years, I have exclaimed that L ü Zu has been relocated. The gods of heaven have been restored many times, leaving no damage to their beauty." The protection of cultural relics in the Yongle Palace has never stopped. Since 2016, it has repaired the roofs of all ancient buildings and collaborated with Tsinghua University School of Architecture, China Cultural Heritage Research Institute, Dunhuang Research Institute, Yungang Research Institute, and others. In response to the problems of paint layer peeling, powdering and other diseases in murals, the largest mural restoration project in history was launched in 2021. In addition, the museum's collection of glass, stone carvings, and clay sculptures were also repaired. The digital collection of Yuan Dynasty murals in one gate and three halls has been completed, enabling the preservation of image data of Yongle Palace murals. "In order to inherit, utilize, and showcase this artistic treasure well, we also pay attention to exploring the value of cultural relics." Zhang Qing told reporters that the digital collection work of the Yuan Dynasty murals in the Three Halls has been completed, allowing for the preservation of the image data of the Yongle Palace murals. The original reproduction and digital display of Yongle Palace murals, carried out using 3D printing technology and digital restoration technology, have been exhibited on tours at Shanxi Museum, Yangzhou Grand Canal Museum, Guangdong Provincial Museum, and other places. For hundreds of years, the Yongle Palace still attracts the attention of the world. At present, the annual tourist reception here is about four to five hundred thousand people, including overseas Chinese, as well as tourists from France, Japan and other places. (Lai Xin She)
