2024-05-14

The newly edited Peking Opera "Qi Baishi", which has undergone continuous polishing and improvement, was recently performed at the Beijing Art Center. It is reported that the newly edited Peking Opera "Qi Baishi" has undergone a systematic and refined polishing and enhancement in this round, based on the completion of the first round of performances in December last year, after organizing multiple special discussions, soliciting expert opinions, and absorbing suggestions from various sectors of society. This round of creative performances highlights Qi Baishi's contemporaneity, people-oriented nature, and patriotism, emphasizing his determination to "bid farewell to the old and become a new self", as well as his conflicting ideas between "order painters" and "I paint myself". It comprehensively showcases his aesthetic orientation and artistic sentiment that are deeply rooted in life and the people. It is worth mentioning that the contemporary master of Peking Opera, Mr. Mei Lanfang, had a close relationship with Qi Baishi. The two were close friends in art, and Qi Baishi created his own "Red Flower Ink Leaf" painting style, forming his own school. Mei Lanfang combined the artistic characteristics of Qingyi, Huadan, and Daoma Dan to create the Huashan profession. The new version of "Qi Baishi" emphasizes the daily communication and artistic exchange between two masters in the fields of traditional Chinese painting and cultural heritage. After the performance, the symposium on the newly edited Peking Opera "Qi Baishi" was immediately held. Qin Yan, the director of Beijing Peking Opera Theatre, introduced at the meeting the detailed situation of the drama's processing, improvement, and recent performances. Zhong Chengxiang, former vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Artistic Circles, stated that the Beijing Peking Opera Theatre has deeply explored the unique cultural resources of Beijing with a high degree of cultural confidence and historical consciousness, creating a masterpiece with Qi Baishi's artistic innovation spirit as the core, fully reflecting the active role of the Beijing Peking Opera Theatre in promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture. Ma Xinming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Executive Vice Chairman of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, believes that the drama has made a new interpretation that is in line with the values of the times while fully inheriting traditional culture. It is reported that this performance is also one of the "First Lesson of National Essence" special performances of the Beijing Opera Campus Series. This event is hosted by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, undertaken by the Dongcheng District Education Commission, organized by the Dongcheng District Youth Palace, and specifically executed by the Beijing Changyin National Art Heritage Promotion Center. "Qi Baishi" is included in the "first lesson of Chinese traditional opera", aiming to inspire young people's understanding and love for traditional art by allowing students to watch Chinese traditional opera art from zero distance.
