Cross border e-commerce starts an "acceleration run"
2024-05-10
Cross border e-commerce has become a new highlight of global economic development. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, in the first quarter of this year, China's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports amounted to 577.6 billion yuan, an increase of 9.6%; Among them, exports amounted to 448 billion yuan and imports amounted to 129.6 billion yuan. Relying on a flexible, efficient, and resilient supply chain, cross-border e-commerce injects new impetus into global trade growth. From policy support to the construction of the China Cross border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "Cross border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone"), from the acceleration of enterprises going global to the influx of more and more young people... China's cross-border e-commerce is starting to accelerate, making "buying and selling globally" more smooth. For Qiao Shili, a fast selling merchant in the wig industry belt of Xuchang City, Henan Province, promoting new momentum in foreign trade, the "May Day" holiday is no different from every busy workday because "there are too many orders to be issued". Since joining the semi hosting service on AliExpress in January this year, Qiao Shili's store has seen a significant increase in order volume. During the holiday period, manpower has been arranged for shipment, and the store does not close every day. "Our merchants can choose to have the platform undertake the cross-border logistics process uniformly, while retaining flexible and independent business and pricing space." Qiao Shili explained that merchants only need to directly stock up at their doorstep warehouse, and after overseas consumers place orders, the goods can be shipped out within 24 hours at the fastest. At the express supervision center of the bonded logistics center in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, the staff proficiently package clothing from Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is expected that all goods will be delivered to Japanese consumers within 5 days, which is 2 to 3 days shorter than before. In 2023, China's cross-border e-commerce has developed rapidly, with total exports exceeding 1.8 trillion yuan, an increase of 19.6%. Based solely on customs statistics from Shanghai Pudong Airport, three home appliance platforms saw an explosive growth in export declaration volume in 2023, with a year-on-year increase of over 10 times. The rapid development of cross-border e-commerce exports has helped Chinese products reach the world and injected new momentum into international trade. At present, there are over 100000 cross-border e-commerce entities in China, and more than 200000 independent websites have been built. Exports cover most of the "Made in China" and "Made in China" advantageous products, from clothing, shoes, bags, toys and home textiles to electronic digital and smart homes. The supporting services for cross-border e-commerce are also being improved. As of 2023, there are over 1800 overseas warehouses in China, and Chinese banks can provide full chain and full cycle services for domestic cross-border e-commerce operators. The construction of cross-border e-commerce pilot zones has also played an important role in promoting the development of cross-border e-commerce in China. Since 2015, the Ministry of Commerce has established 165 comprehensive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce, encouraging each pilot to actively explore innovation in regulation, standards, information technology, and other aspects. At present, the cross-border e-commerce trade scale of enterprises in the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone accounts for over 95% of the national total. The support of policies for cross-border e-commerce pilot zones is also increasing. Recently, the relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Commerce stated that the Ministry of Commerce will continue to work with relevant departments to solidly promote the construction of cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones, continuously improve supporting policies, enhance regulatory facilitation levels, accelerate the construction of industrial chains and ecosystems that meet the needs of cross-border e-commerce development, and promote high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce. Many places have introduced relevant policies to accelerate the promotion
