On May 13th, the 10th French Chinese Film Festival will grandly open in Paris. This year's film festival is hosted by the National Film Administration and the Paris China Cultural Center, and hosted by CCTV-6 Film Channel and the China Film Archive. The 10 latest films released in China will be showcased in collaborative cinemas across France for over a month starting from May 13th. 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. To better build a cultural exchange platform and provide a broad window for the French people to understand the prosperity and development of contemporary China and the diversity of Chinese cinema. The organizing committee of the film festival selected 10 films, including "Hot and Spicy", "Life at a Speed 2", "Kangxi and Louis XIV", "Fengshen Part 1: Chaoge Fengyun", "Enthusiasm", "Chang'an 30000 Miles", "Love Myth", "Life Events", "Wandering Earth 2", and "Miracle: Stupid Children", covering various genres such as cartoons, documentaries, comedies, science fiction films, and feature films, with rich content and diverse perspectives, deeply showcasing the living conditions and spiritual world of different regions and professional groups in China. In the film list, "Kangxi and Louis XIV" is a Sino French co produced documentary film. "Kangxi and Louis XIV" is jointly produced by Guangzhou Broadcasting and Television Station, Huaxia Film Distribution Co., Ltd., and Lucky Light Film Music Company (France). Professional film teams from China and France filmed in both countries. This film "Chinese Story, International Expression" tells the story of over 300 years ago, when King Louis XIV of France sent six "King's Mathematicians" to China. Subsequently, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty of China and Louis XIV engaged in active interaction, and the two countries embarked on far-reaching technological, commercial, and ideological and cultural exchanges. At the expert seminar on "Kangxi and Louis XIV" held at the end of April, this Cantonese documentary film was recognized by experts. Hu Zhanfan, Honorary Chairman of the China Television Association, former Director of CCTV, and former Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, commented that the film is "a scarce subject matter film." In his view, there are not many documentaries that reflect Sino foreign relations, and even fewer that reflect this period of history, because this history itself is relatively short - before it, Shunzhi was closed, but later in Qianlong, it began to be closed off again. It is rare to have the window period of Kangxi, which appears particularly beautiful and unique. It is understood that the film will be released in China soon. (Lai Xin She)
