On May 8th, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Beijing People's Art Theatre Drama Writing and Director Talent Training Class was held at the Juyin Theater. Feng Yuanzheng, Dean of Beijing People's Art Theatre, Zhou Tong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group, and Qin Xinchun, Vice Dean, as well as members of the teaching group and students of the screenwriter and director training class, attended the opening ceremony. In 2024, Beijing People's Art Theatre, based on the construction of national cultural centers and the higher demand for talents from theaters, continued to make efforts in talent reserves and platform construction, recruited students from all over the society, held training courses for screenwriters and directors, and received widespread attention and positive response from the industry. This is also the first time that Beijing People's Art Theatre has held a joint training course for editors and directors. At the opening ceremony, Feng Yuanzheng, the dean of the Beijing People's Art Theatre, elaborated on the significance of this training and encouraged the trainees to apply what they have learned and create more excellent works. The opening ceremony of the 2024 Beijing People's Art Theatre Drama Writing and Director Talent Training Class was held at the Juyin Theater. It is understood that this is the first time that Beijing People's Art Theatre has jointly trained screenwriters and directors. Since the start of registration at the beginning of the year, after preliminary exams and selection, 14 screenwriters and directors have finally been selected for the training course. From May to August, a three-month training program will be conducted. The focus of this selection is on young editors and directors in the professional field. We hope to discover a group of editors and directors who are suitable for the creative style of the People's Art through centralized teaching, gathering, discussion and exchange, and creative exhibition. In the future, Beijing People's Art Theatre plans to create stage works through project cooperation, in order to enrich the existing artistic creation mechanism of Beijing People's Art Theatre. While completing talent reserves, it also accumulates plays for future artistic development. "This training class is very distinctive of the Chinese People's Art Theatre. Not only are there experts and teachers from the fields of screenwriting and directing to teach professional courses, but there are also teachers from Beijing People's Art Theatre in terms of stage design and performance, as well as experts in drama criticism, traditional Chinese opera, and folk art." Tang Ye, the head of the Beijing People's Art Theatre Creation Room and a member of the training class teaching group, introduced. She said that the theater hopes that students will not only be familiar with the creative methods and artistic characteristics of Beijing People's Art Theatre, but also open up their thinking and broaden their horizons, and integrate their new ideas into their creations for communication and discussion. At the same time, the training course continues the creative tradition of Beijing People's Art Theatre, offering a variety of practical courses. Not only will students be arranged to observe dramas, but a series of cultural activities focusing on original, contemporary, and Beijing themes will also be organized, allowing students to go deep into the front line and accumulate sufficient knowledge before artistic creation, in order to create works that are more in line with the aesthetic of contemporary audiences, especially those that fit the perspective and life of young audiences. It is reported that the results of this training will ultimately be presented in the form of stage performances. The screenwriter and director will group together freely and then choose a new interpretation of classics or complete an original work with contemporary or Beijing themes. During the creative process, the guiding teacher will strictly control and polish the creative texts and director's ideas of the students. In the end, the work will be performed by young actors from Beijing People's Art Theatre on the stage of the small theater, and will be reported for performance.
