Joint research on new pathogens, joint research and development of tumor biomarkers, and joint exploration of diagnostic methods for tuberculosis... For more than 40 years, the French Merier Institute and Chinese scientific research institutes have continued to deepen cooperation and collaborative innovation to jointly address health challenges. For this French technology enterprise with a century long history dedicated to biological research and clinical diagnosis, cooperation with China is bringing new development opportunities. This is a photo taken on March 10, 2019 at the Merieux Biological Research Center in Lyon, France. Collaborative innovation has yielded fruitful results. "China has become an important industrial and research center, and we have established a long-term partnership with China in the fields of infectious disease diagnosis and food safety." Alan Merie, Chairman of the Merie Foundation, Chairman of the Merie Research Institute, and Founder of BioMerie, said in a recent interview with Xinhua News Agency. Alan Merier's grandfather established the Merier Institute in Lyon, France in the late 19th century. He inherited the family's legacy and founded the BioMerie Company in 1963. In 1978, Merie introduced vaccines to the Chinese scientific research community, marking the beginning of his friendly cooperation with China. Subsequently, the scope of cooperation gradually expanded to include medical diagnosis, immunization, food safety control, and infectious disease prevention and control. In 1997, BioMerie opened an office in Beijing. In 2004, the company's Asia Pacific headquarters settled in Shanghai. Since 2005, Merier has set up joint laboratories with top medical colleges and clinical institutions in Beijing and Shanghai to carry out cutting-edge research on tumor, infectious diseases, intensive care biomarkers, etc., including the establishment of joint laboratories with the Institute of Pathogen Biology of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences to study new pathogens; Establish a joint research and development laboratory with Fudan University Affiliated Cancer Hospital to develop tumor biomarkers; Establish a joint research and development laboratory with the Shanghai Children's Medical Center affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine to develop biomarkers for pediatric infections and intensive care. Liang Ji, the head of the joint research and development laboratory of BioMerit in Greater China, introduced that the collaboration project of BioMerit Research Institute (including BioMerit) in Shanghai has obtained 37 patents and published more than 20 Scientific Citation Index (SCI) papers. In 2011, the new base of BioMerie Company was built in Pudong, Shanghai. Nowadays, Shanghai has become the company's third largest research and development, production, and operation base globally. "China has a high-level medical, research, and hospital team, as well as internationally renowned universities. Collaborating with these institutions is a unique opportunity for our researchers," said Alan Merier. "We have long-term collaborative projects with the Chinese team, and our goal is to find answers to major public health challenges, such as bacterial resistance to antibiotics, which is a global threat." On December 20, 2018, Alan Merier presented the China Reform Friendship Medal and certificate at his office in Lyon, France. Alan Merier stated that China's ability to address some major challenges is admirable, including providing medical services to everyone in a vast country
