At around 2:10 on May 1st, a landslide occurred on the Chayang section of the Meida Expressway in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. As of 15:30 on the 2nd, the disaster has caused 48 deaths and 30 injuries. We must make every effort to carry out on-site rescue, treat the injured, and properly handle the aftermath. We must urgently repair damaged roads and restore traffic order as soon as possible. Currently, it is the May Day holiday, with an increase in public travel and a large flow of people. In some areas, there will also be large-scale rainfall and strong convective weather, and various accidents and disasters are prone to occur. All regions and relevant departments should adhere to bottom line thinking, consolidate work responsibilities, strengthen monitoring and early warning, improve emergency plans, timely investigate and dispose of risks and hidden dangers in key areas and areas, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property and social stability. Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, issued instructions to make every effort to rescue the injured, meticulously carry out post disaster work, and make every effort to search and rescue trapped individuals, in order to strictly prevent secondary risks. Currently, it is the peak time for mass tourism during the May Day holiday, and some areas will also experience large-scale rainfall. All relevant departments in various regions should further strengthen the implementation of safety responsibilities, focus on identifying risks and hazards caused by long-term rainfall in roads, scenic spots, and public facilities, effectively implement safety management measures, and make every effort to prevent various accidents and disasters from occurring. The main responsible comrades of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Government rushed to the scene to command the frontline emergency response work.
