On April 23rd, the third National Reading Conference opened in Kunming, Yunnan. Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of the Propaganda Department, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The attending guests believe that the prosperity of culture, the strength of the country, and the rejuvenation of the nation all rely on the cultural accumulation and spiritual power brought by reading. We should promote the continuation and inheritance of civilization through nationwide reading, strengthen cultural confidence, and promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese culture. To promote the development and growth of the publishing industry, we advocate for paper reading and deep reading, and develop new formats of digital publishing and digital reading. We need to accelerate the formation of a nationwide reading promotion service system that covers both urban and rural areas, strengthen legislative protection for nationwide reading, and create favorable conditions for people to access books and engage in reading. Zhu Yongxin, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Executive Vice Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony. The theme of this conference is "Building a Bookish Society and Sharing Modern Civilization". It will hold reading promotion, theme release, and activities such as the National Reading Lecture Hall and the Spring City Bookish Corridor, aiming to continuously deepen the national reading activities and further cultivate a good culture of loving, reading good books, and being good at reading throughout society.
