Visiting the Chinese Navy Submarine Academy: How can military academy teaching keep up with the trend of military development?
2024-04-22
"Whether it's surface vessels or submarines, our navy's equipment is getting newer and constantly approaching world-class levels. Military academies' teaching should also keep up with this trend," Zhao Liye, a teacher at the Naval Submarine Academy of the People's Liberation Army of China, pointed out in an interview on the 21st. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Navy, reporters visited and interviewed the Chinese Navy Submarine Academy on the 21st. This college is a command oriented higher education institution in China that cultivates talents in naval submarines, disaster prevention and rescue, and underwater new combat forces. It is also an institution that supports the construction of new combat forces in the Chinese military. In the simulation training room of the college, the reporter saw a submarine training simulator. Students can simulate unexpected situations inside submarines and cultivate the emergency response ability of a submarine soldier in an immersive manner. Zhao Liye stated that although it is a simulator, its actual operation is the same as the weapons and equipment of the army. This type of simulator operation course accounts for about one-third of the daily teaching content. After completing theoretical learning, students need to first conduct corresponding practical courses on the simulator before they can operate on a real submarine. "In current university teaching, simulators are one of the best training methods, which is basically consistent with the actual environment of the military." Zhao Liye said that using simulators for training can greatly improve the training efficiency of students, and using classroom time can achieve the same effect as military training, improve students' basic cognitive abilities, and enable them to adapt to new job positions more quickly after entering the military. In recent years, the weapons and equipment of the Chinese Navy have been continuously iterated, and the teaching simulation equipment of the Naval Submarine Academy has also been updated accordingly. Military expert Cao Weidong explained that while the relevant equipment was still under construction, the corresponding simulators had already been produced. After using a simulator for teaching and training, when the equipment is handed over to the students, they can quickly master it. According to the institute, the China Naval Submarine Academy focuses on combat effectiveness standards and cultivates high-quality and specialized new military talents who are commensurate with the strategic position of submarine branches and possess both moral integrity and talent. Zhou Yuting, a junior student of the college, has interned in relevant military units. He stated that the college promotes comprehensive training, and students not only need to lay a solid foundation in theoretical learning, but also need to improve their practical operation and understanding of existing equipment. "Nowadays, students are smarter than when we were students." Zhao Liye also graduated from the China Naval Submarine Academy and worked in the submarine unit for more than a decade before returning to the academy as a teacher in 2020. He said that the students admitted by the college now have a wider range of knowledge, stronger acceptance ability, and more active thinking. Weapons and equipment have been upgraded, and the quality of officers and soldiers continues to improve. The interviewed officers, soldiers, and experts believe that in this context, the key to quickly mastering advanced equipment and shortening the time for generating combat effectiveness lies in how to more effectively connect the teaching of military academies with the actual needs of the military. Zhao Liye believes that the training of students should be in line with the actual situation of the military. The training courses of the military should be tailored to the courses that the colleges and universities need to train, and the teaching content and methods should be closer to practical combat. The theoretical level of the students is getting higher and higher, their skills training is getting better and better, and they are taking over new equipment more and more smoothly, providing opportunities for the next step
