The earliest emergence of Turpan studies originated from the Dunhuang Turpan studies proposed by Mr. Ji Xianlin. Over the past century, with the joint efforts of renowned scholars both domestically and internationally, a number of academic works on Turpan studies have emerged one after another. However, due to the particularity of its research field, the scarcity and complexity of research resources, it is considered a "rare and unparalleled field" in the domestic social science community. Nowadays, Turpan studies, a rare and unparalleled discipline, are attracting more and more attention from young scholars. From April 13th to 14th, the "Fancai Yanghua - First Turpan Studies Graduate Forum" was held in Turpan, Xinjiang, jointly hosted by the Dunhuang Turpan Society of China, Peking University Center for Ancient Chinese History Research, and Turpan Cultural Relics Bureau. 143 master's and doctoral students from 42 universities and research institutions across the country gathered in Turpan to discuss and exchange the latest academic concerns and research achievements. Fancai Yanghua, taken from the document unearthed from Tomb 230 of the Astana Ancient Tomb Group in Turpan, expresses the beautiful vision of the vigorous development of Turpan studies and the creation of a highland for Turpan studies, with the original description of "conch and clam shells shining like silk" as the meaning. "There is a vast world for the study of Turfan Studies!" Rong Xinjiang, a liberal chair professor of Peking University and president of the China Dunhuang Turfan Society, made a keynote speech and said in an interview that he has always looked forward to the "flying together" of Turfan Studies and Dunhuang Studies, but in contrast, the researchers of Turfan Studies are limited, and many research work cannot be carried out. The research of Turpan studies requires the participation of new forces, and the first graduate forum can provide a platform for young scholars to exchange ideas. "Turpan studies are a cultural symbol of Turpan, and efforts should be made to promote Turpan studies in the new era," said Kayeser Kayumu, Deputy Secretary of the Turpan Municipal Party Committee and Mayor. In recent years, Turpan has carried out archaeological excavations on multiple Turpan ancient cultural sites, including the Yanghai Cemetery, Jiayi Cemetery, and Gaochang Ancient City, and has successfully held more than 10 international academic seminars. This year, the first Turpan Graduate Forum also emerged. The first Turpan Graduate Forum focused on a wide range of topics and fields. The young scholars attending the meeting were divided into four groups: the History Group, the Literature Group, the Archaeology Group, and the Religious Art Group, to conduct discussions and speeches, and to conduct academic investigations on the Nestorian site in the west and the Baizikrik Thousand Buddha Cave. "From the papers shared at the first Turpan Studies Graduate Forum, it can be seen that young scholars are currently focusing on more refined fields, and there are more and more young scholars with interdisciplinary backgrounds, which is conducive to studying Turpan Studies from a more nuanced perspective." said Chen Aifeng, Vice President of the Turpan Studies Institute. "Young scholars with active thinking are the main force in the academic research of Turpan studies. We hope that more young scholars will pay attention to Turpan studies, continuously strengthen the research and interpretation of Turpan studies, and expand the depth and breadth of Turpan studies."
