According to reports, as of the 4th of this month, the association conducted a survey on 95 consumers who suffered health damage after taking Xiaolin Pharmaceutical's health products containing red yeast ingredients. The chairman of the association, Nan Xuezheng, said that more than half of these patients went to seek medical attention at the initial diagnosis due to symptoms such as fatigue and urinary abnormalities, which are typical symptoms of Fanconi syndrome. He stated that the clinical manifestations of Fanconi syndrome include excessive levels of potassium, phosphorus, uric acid, and other substances in the patient's urine, and some patients exhibit decreased renal function, which has been confirmed in most patients. The survey also showed that three-quarters of patients only stopped taking problematic health supplements and their symptoms improved. Nanxue Zhengchen said that it is very important to stop taking problematic health products as soon as possible and called on the public not to be overly afraid. If they feel any physical abnormalities, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Fanconi syndrome is a group of symptoms caused by abnormal renal tubular function. A normal kidney can filter waste from the blood and convert it into urine for excretion. However, in patients with Fanconi syndrome, abnormal renal tubules can cause proteins, minerals, and other substances that should have been reabsorbed during filtration to be excreted along with urine, leading to swelling, fatigue, and other symptoms. Symptoms may worsen and progress to chronic renal failure. At the press conference, the relevant information of 5 consumers who died after taking problematic health products was also announced. Three out of five people have a history of prostate cancer, malignant lymphoma, and other related illnesses. In terms of age group, there are 3 people in their 70s, 1 person in their 90s, and the age of the other person is unknown. According to data released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, as of the 9th, 219 consumers who took Kobayashi Pharmaceutical's problematic health products have been hospitalized, and 1296 have gone to medical institutions for treatment.
