Brilliant performance, China's photovoltaic industry leads the world and benefits the world

At the recently held Boao Forum for Asia 2024 annual meeting, a dark blue photovoltaic floor tile caught the eye outside the Boao Forum for Asia News Center. It, along with 629 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the news center, "captures" sunlight. Behind the house stands a "large battery" used to store green electricity. Through renovation, the news center has built a high-level "light storage direct flexible" distribution system, with an annual power generation of about 520000 kilowatt hours, which is slightly surplus compared to the annual power consumption of 500000 kilowatt hours. Not only the news center has changed into a "green shirt". From a high altitude perspective, from the roof to the carport, multiple green and low-carbon scenes created by photovoltaic solar panels can be seen everywhere: the liquid cooling technology of the photovoltaic charging station can quickly make vehicles fully charged in 10 minutes... When it was learned that the electricity consumption of the Boao Near Zero Carbon Demonstration Zone comes from sunlight and sea breeze, guests from home and abroad gave thumbs up. In recent years, Chinese photovoltaic products have performed well and become one of the "new three types" that are popular overseas. In the process of the development of China's photovoltaic industry from small to large and from weak to strong, Gao Jifan, Chairman of Trina Solar Co., Ltd., is both a witness and a fighter. Recently, this newspaper interviewed Gao Jifan to explore the story behind the development of China's photovoltaic industry. "I still remember clearly that in 2010, Trina Solar's core technology became a detail of international standards. Previously, all international standards in the photovoltaic industry were formulated by foreign companies. At that time, the quality assurance period of photovoltaic modules was only 15 years. We organized a research and development team to tackle the problem, which went through dozens of failures. After more than 1000 days and nights of hard work, we finally succeeded." Gao Jifan said, "With our original technology, I also led the formulation of the first international standard in China's photovoltaic industry. Now, the quality assurance period of photovoltaic modules can reach more than 30 years. Looking back for more than 20 years, chasing the energy of a beam of light, China's photovoltaic industry has followed suit." Starting, braving the wind and rain, relentlessly exploring. Gao Jifan is one of the "pursuers" of China's photovoltaic industry. In his view, in the past 30 years, the Chinese photovoltaic industry has gone through three stages of catching up, running, and leading. "When the domestic photovoltaic industry was just starting, many people thought it was just making rooftop solar water heaters and burning hot water," Gao Jifan said with a smile. Previously, the domestic photovoltaic industry was described as "three headed outside", with almost all raw materials, equipment, and markets relying on overseas markets. The heads of several battery and component manufacturing companies still remember the situation at that time - in terms of equipment, there were almost no domestically produced equipment on domestic production lines, and development was clearly constrained by people. But now, the proportion of overseas equipment on production lines is very small. Initially, the photovoltaic industry was limited by the level of core technology and costs, with high costs remaining, becoming an important factor restricting the large-scale application of photovoltaic power generation. Slowly, the Chinese photovoltaic industry is gradually extending upstream. The supporting enterprises in each link of the photovoltaic industry chain are developing rapidly, continuously breaking through key core technologies in the photovoltaic industry through technological innovation. From auxiliary materials to complete equipment, from single production to system integration,
