The "Jinghe Qingming - Our Festival · Qingming" Classic Poetry and Calligraphy Exhibition, sponsored by the Office of the Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee of Haizhu District, Guangzhou and the Cultural, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau of Haizhu District, Guangzhou, opened at the Deng Shichang Memorial Hall (Haizhu Museum). Qingming Festival is an important traditional festival in China, which is a festival to commemorate and honor our ancestors and sages. The Deng Shichang Memorial Hall is a celebrity memorial hall with the theme of commemorating the national hero Deng Shichang. It is built on the basis of the Deng Clan Ancestral Hall (Deng Shichang's ancestral hall), which was built in the middle and late Qing Dynasty. Every Qingming Festival, commemorative activities are held here. Pan Jianfen, the director of the Deng Shichang Memorial Hall, said, "2024 marks the 130th anniversary of the martyrdom of the national hero Deng Shichang. In the fierce Battle of the Yellow Sea 130 years ago, the" Zhiyuan Ship "led Deng Shichang to command all the officers and soldiers of the ship to fight fiercely against the Japanese enemy and die heroically. History is like smoke, and the passing is like this. Through calligraphy and art works, we commemorate the national hero, promote the spirit of patriotism, and let the Chinese people remember history, be prepared for danger in peace, and forge ahead." It is reported that this exhibition will continue until April 27th, and during the exhibition period, paper kite making and movable characters will be held on April 6th, April 14th, and April 21st. This exhibition showcases nearly 80 calligraphy works, covering various forms of calligraphy and styles such as seal script, clerical script, regular script, running script, and cursive script. Artists, through studying classic poems of the Qingming and Cold Food dynasties, as well as related poems commemorating Deng Shichang, use calligraphy as a carrier to inherit the seasonal characteristics of the Qingming culture, as well as the patriotism of being cautious in pursuing the future and reminiscing about the ancestors, and promote the spirit of patriotism.
