The old house with white walls and black tiles tells the life story of the master of Yue opera, and it will also become a window to showcase the art of Yue opera. Yue Opera originated in Shengzhou. For over a hundred years, generations of Yue opera artists have been determined to reform and promote traditional Chinese opera art. Among them, Yuan Xuefen, a famous performing artist of Shaoxing Opera and one of the "Ten sisters of Shaoxing Opera", has been dedicated to artistic innovation all her life and has had a profound impact on the development of modern Shaoxing Opera. According to Wang Xiayan, Vice Mayor of Shengzhou City, in order to promote the culture of Yue Opera and celebrity culture, the local government has invested more than 17 million yuan to launch the comprehensive protection and utilization project of Yuan Xuefen's former residence in 2022 (the 100th anniversary of Yuan Xuefen's birth), with a total land area of over 2000 square meters. Entering Yuan Xuefen's former residence, there is an orderly display of her precious stills, life photos, and important historical materials, as well as precious cultural relics and historical materials related to Yue Opera. The former residence revolves around the family letter written by Yuan Xuefen to her uncle in 1995, showcasing Yuan Xuefen's life of exploration in the field of Yue Opera art. In the former residence, tourists can immerse themselves in the past of the Yuan family, people's lives, folk customs, Yue opera art, and more. "The former residence carries the profound friendship between Teacher Yuan and her hometown, and is the place where her art originated." Fang Yafen, a disciple of Yuan Xuefen, said in an interview that the renovated former residence is not only a place of admiration for predecessors, but also a place for the inheritance and promotion of Yue opera art and spirit.
