The Maltese Parliament approves De Bono as the new President

On the 27th, the Maltese Parliament voted to approve Miriam Spitelli de Bono as the next President. On the same day, the Maltese Parliament voted on the proposal nominated by Prime Minister Abera and supported by opposition leader Gracie to nominate De Bono as the next president. There are a total of 79 members of the Malta Parliament, and 4 members were absent from voting on the same day. De Bono received unanimous support from 75 members of parliament who participated in the vote. According to the Maltese Constitution, the appointment of a new president must win at least two-thirds of the votes in favor. De Bono will be sworn in on April 4th to replace outgoing President Villa. De Bono will become the 11th President of Malta, serving a term of 5 years. She is also the third female president in the history of Malta. De Bono, currently 71 years old, served as the Speaker of Malta from 1996 to 1998 and was the first female Speaker of Malta.
