On the evening of the 23rd, the large-scale symphonic choir "Tao Te Ching" premiered at the Xi'an Concert Hall. This philosophical work from over 2000 years ago was presented for the first time in the form of "symphony+solo+choir", using music as a carrier to achieve a breakthrough and attempt for the Chinese voice to express itself to the world. This work is based on the Tao Te Ching and was created by composer Sun Chang over a period of two years. It has compiled a manuscript of about 100000 words. This large-scale symphonic work, based on the roots of Chinese philosophy, adopts the form of "Western traditional orchestral music+choir". Handplates, alto/bass flutes, and traditional Chinese instruments are added to the orchestration, in order to express the philosophy born in the pre Qin era with a pure and classical listening experience, and to find a suitable musical language for Chinese philosophy. Famous conductor and music educator Zhang Guoyong served as the artistic consultant for the XSO Xi'an Symphony Orchestra for the first time. That night, under the leadership of Zhang Guoyong, Song Qian, Cai Jingwen, Wang Chuan, and the master joined hands with the XSO Xi'an Symphony Orchestra and XSOC Xi'an Symphony Orchestra Choir to combine the beauty of phonological rhetoric in classical works, using music to immerse the audience in Laozi's philosophical world and spiritual world. The director of this concert, Chen Xiyi, created a ethereal and distant atmosphere through the overall stage arrangement and visual presentation of new media artist Feng Jiangzhou, with a unique Eastern aesthetic perspective, creating a dual feast of auditory and visual for the audience. The ginkgo tree at the foot of Zhongnan Mountain broke through the ceiling of the concert hall and continued to grow... The actors on stage were dressed in plain robes, white makeup, and wearing masks from Laozi. As the Tao Te Ching said, "great music has the faintest notes, great form Is beyond shape." "There are 82 paragraphs in this work, and these paragraphs are closely related. How to make music have a very good integrity is not easy," Sun Chang said. When the last note falls, the concert, completed by 177 actors, officially comes to an end, but the stage presentation of this large-scale original work will continue. (Lai Xin She)
