Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the filing and approval results for undergraduate majors in ordinary higher education institutions in 2023, with a total of 1456 newly registered majors and 217 approved majors (including 160 nationally controlled majors and 57 new majors outside the directory), and 46 adjusted degree granting categories or years of study for specialized majors. The majors registered, approved, and adjusted this time will be included in the 2024 undergraduate enrollment plan of relevant universities. The Ministry of Education is deepening the adjustment, optimization, and reform of professional settings, guiding and supporting universities to open new majors that are urgently needed for national strategy and regional development. 24 new majors will be added this time: based on serving national strategic needs, majors such as high-power semiconductor science and engineering and biological breeding technology will be established; Focusing on the forefront of science and key technological fields, deepening the construction of the "Four New", and setting up majors such as electronic information materials, intelligent visual engineering, and intelligent marine equipment; Promote the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture, and establish majors such as Chinese classical studies; Focusing on serving the strategic needs of a healthy China, implementing the deployment of building a strong sports country, and setting up majors such as health science and technology, sports and wellness, and football. The Ministry of Education has simultaneously released the latest version of the "Catalogue of Undergraduate Majors in Ordinary Higher Education Institutions", which includes 93 professional categories and 816 majors. It is understood that this time, in combination with changes in economic and social development needs and professional layout, dynamic adjustments have been made to the scope of national controlled distribution majors, adjusting resource exploration engineering, nursing, and midwifery to national controlled distribution majors. In this professional setting work, 1719 professional points were added or adjusted. At the same time, 1670 professional points applied for revocation by universities were recorded, involving a total of 3389 professional points, the highest number in history. Next, the Ministry of Education will continue to promote professional dynamic adjustments, target the cultivation of national strategic talents and urgently needed talents, and enhance the support and contribution of education to high-quality development. It is understood that in March last year, the Ministry of Education and five other departments issued the "Plan for Adjusting, Optimizing and Reforming the Professional Setting of General Higher Education Disciplines". Since the implementation of the plan for one year, the Ministry of Education has continued to increase efforts in adjusting the professional setting, and has been implementing "one province, one case" and "one school, one policy". Currently, 23 provinces (regions, cities) and 94 universities affiliated with central departments have formulated implementation plans. Based on the actual development of local industries, each province has sorted out 520 urgently needed majors and 223 majors with relatively low employment rates, providing important reference for optimizing the professional structure of local universities and promoting the matching of regional talent supply and demand. At the same time, the Ministry of Education has issued a revocation warning for majors that have been suspended for 5 years or more in universities, implemented a pre application system for majors, and promoted the establishment of a sound mechanism for regular and pre research on major settings, enhancing the foresight and accuracy of major settings.
