China's first scientific exploration well with a designed depth of over 10000 meters, the Deeply Buried Tako 1 Well in the Tarim Oilfield of PetroChina, has been drilled to a depth of over 10000 meters, becoming the second onshore well in the world and the first vertical well in Asia with a depth of over 10000 meters. This marks that China has independently overcome the bottleneck of drilling technology for tens of thousands of meters of ultra deep wells, and its deep oil and gas drilling capabilities and supporting technologies have reached the international advanced level. Shendi Taco 1 Well is a major "deep ground project" implemented by PetroChina in the Tarim Oilfield, shouldering two major missions of scientific exploration and oil and gas discovery. The designed depth of the well is 11100 meters and drilling was started on May 30, 2023. Deepening into the unknown territory of tens of thousands of meters, the difficulty of drilling is increasing exponentially. Faced with this "tough nut", multiple units such as China Petroleum Tarim Oilfield, Western Drilling, and Gemstone Machinery have carried out joint research and development, overcoming key technical difficulties in the high-load lifting system of ultra-high drilling platforms. They have independently developed the world's first 12000 meter ultra deep well automated drilling rig, and innovatively developed 220 degree Celsius ultra-high temperature drilling fluid, high-temperature resistant screws, inclinometer and other process technologies. Breakthrough has been achieved in equipment for data acquisition such as 10000 meter core and cables. The 175 megawatt high-pressure fracturing truck and fracturing fluid equipment have been developed and successfully tested on site, creating a number of key core technologies such as safe and efficient drilling and completion of 10000 meter deep wells. "Ultra deep drilling has become the main position for increasing reserves and production of China's oil and gas resources. Moving deep into the earth is a major strategic task to ensure China's energy security, and a major strategic choice to stabilize and secure energy jobs. Ten thousand meter deep well drilling can not only accelerate the development of key technologies for ten thousand meter ultra deep oil and gas drilling, but also drive the continuous progress of the entire industrial chain of deep exploration and development in China, and help the high level science and technology of oil to become self reliant." It is understood that the Tarim Basin, where Well Shendi Taco 1 is located, is the only oil and gas bearing basin in the world with super deep resources, and also the largest deep oil and gas enrichment area in China. At present, China Petroleum Tarim Oilfield is aiming at 11100 meters and even deeper into the Earth, deepening the theoretical understanding of hydrocarbon generation, storage, and reservoir formation at 10000 meters, increasing drilling efforts in complex and difficult to drill formations, and continuously promoting the iteration and upgrading of equipment and technology such as the 175 megawatt high-pressure wellhead.
