Recently, the 2024 project of "Empowering China with General Practitioners" was officially launched at the "Forum on the Development of High Quality Services for Grassroots Health" at the 20th International Conference on Neurology. Zhang Lifang, a researcher at the Health Development Research Center of the National Health Commission, Wang Liyu, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of the Beijing Community Health Association, Li Shixue, President of the Shandong Grassroots Health Association, Xie Yiqiang, Minister of the Organization Department of Hainan Medical University, Xie Fujun, Director of the Zhongshan Men Street Community Health Service Center in Hedong District, Tianjin, and Liu Hongbing, Vice President of Yunfu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Guangdong Province, attended the launch ceremony. Professor Chi Chunhua, Chairman of the General Practice Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Director of the General Practice Department of Peking University First Hospital, stated at the launch ceremony of the "Empowering China with General Practice" project in 2024 that primary healthcare institutions, as the main place of treatment for middle-aged and elderly patients, have long faced a series of problems such as a shortage of excellent medical talents, insufficient treatment capabilities, unclear chronic disease management processes and standards, and insufficient training mechanisms. Since its launch, the "Empowering China with General Practitioners" project has provided a series of training to grassroots doctors through a combination of offline teaching and online training, including knowledge, skills, guidelines, chronic disease management, and collateral disease theory, to standardize the management of common diseases in the elderly, guide grassroots doctors to establish correct clinical diagnosis and treatment thinking, improve grassroots medical capabilities, and strengthen health guidance and comprehensive intervention for common diseases and chronic diseases in the middle-aged and elderly, Strengthening the health management of middle-aged and elderly people and pushing China's primary healthcare industry to a higher level. Professor Chi Chunhua introduced that since its launch, the project has organized multiple academic activities nationwide, focusing on the theoretical, clinical, and teaching innovative development models of standardized management of common diseases in the middle-aged and elderly at the grassroots level. This has solidified the foundation of standardized management of common diseases at the grassroots level and trained nearly 70000 grassroots medical workers. In 2024, "Empowering China with General Practitioners" will continue to integrate cutting-edge innovative methods on the existing basis, promote the development of grassroots medical and health care from a new perspective, continuously improve the ability of grassroots chronic disease prevention and health management, and create an innovative model for standardized management of common diseases at the grassroots level.
