2024-02-21
On February 20th local time, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, co chaired the 25th Sino French Strategic Dialogue with French President's Foreign Affairs Advisor Bona in Paris. Bona said that strategic communication between France and China has been effective, and high-level exchanges have yielded fruitful results. The French side attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership between France and China and will continue to adhere to the One China policy. Faced with the current international turmoil and geopolitical conflicts, the French side is willing to join hands with China to address challenges, avoid major power confrontation, prevent factional confrontation, and improve global governance. The French side advocates for European strategic autonomy and demonstrates a sense of responsibility. Support the EU China partnership positioning and strengthen effective cooperation. Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, mutual trust has been continuously consolidated, consensus has been expanding, and the relationship between the two countries has become increasingly mature and stable. In the past 60 years, the world has undergone tremendous changes, but China and France's insistence on independence and autonomy, pursuit of world multipolarity, and appreciation of cultural diversity have never changed. Standing at a new historical starting point, both sides should work together, guided by the strategic consensus of the two heads of state, adhere to their original aspirations, uphold integrity and innovation, and build a more stable and dynamic comprehensive strategic partnership between China and France, making greater contributions to the development of China Europe relations and making unremitting efforts for world peace. Wang Yi stated that the world's turmoil and even division do not align with the interests of any party. China regards Europe as an important pole in the multipolar process and supports Europe in strengthening strategic autonomy, keeping its future and destiny in its own hands. China and France share similar positions on major issues. We are willing to strengthen strategic communication with the French side, form more consensus, strengthen unity and cooperation, demonstrate the responsibility of major powers, send strong signals, more effectively respond to global challenges, and more actively respond to the expectations of the international community. Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in addressing climate change, protecting biodiversity, sustainable development, agricultural products, clean energy, nuclear energy research and development, artificial intelligence, aerospace, forest carbon sequestration, and other areas. Both sides agreed to continue the positive momentum of the China France Tourism Year, organize hundreds of cultural and exchange activities throughout the year, increase the frequency of direct flights, and further facilitate personnel exchanges. Both sides also had in-depth communication on a wide range of issues related to peace and security, and unanimously agreed that multipolarity is indispensable for peace and stability, and will continue to strengthen strategic cooperation.
