2024-02-20

On February 19, the National Cutural Heritage Administration learned that the new Yinxu Museum in Anyang City, Henan Province will be open to the public on February 26. The new museum is located on the shore of the Huan River, facing the palace area of the ancestral temple in the Yin Ruins across the river. It is the first national major archaeological museum to showcase the commercial civilization in a panoramic manner, and also one of the iconic buildings that shape the oracle bone inscriptions in the Yin Ruins, a new landmark of Chinese culture and a new business card for Chinese tourism. The new exhibition focuses on the theme of commercial civilization, with three basic exhibitions: "Exploring Commercial Civilization", "Great Commercial Civilization", and "World Commercial Civilization". There are also four special exhibitions, including "Where the Long Comes from - Yachang Tomb in the East of Yinxu Huayuan Zhuang" and "Where Are the Children? - Oracle Bone Special Exhibition in the East of Yinxu Huayuan Zhuang", as well as one immersive digital exhibition with unique features. The exhibition provides a panoramic view of the political, economic, military, agricultural, and handicraft aspects of the Shang Dynasty The great achievements in writing and other aspects combine cultural relics, literature, oracle bone records with digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and multimedia, allowing viewers to see through things, people, and things, and intuitively experience the charm of commercial civilization. It is understood that the new museum uses nearly 4000 sets of cultural relics such as bronze, pottery, jade, oracle bones, etc. to introduce visitors to the "Dayi merchants" in oracle bone inscriptions and literature. The number and variety of cultural relics exhibited are the highest among those exhibited during the Shang Dynasty. Of particular note, more than three-quarters of the precious cultural relics will make their debut. For example, the concentrated display of bronze artifacts from the mid Shang Dynasty, the group display of accompanying burial objects such as sub site tombs and Ma Wei tombs, and the concentrated display of over 110 oracle bones unearthed from the H3 oracle bone cellar in the east of Huayuanzhuang. The cultural relics unearthed from the Yachang Tomb on display, through interdisciplinary research and technological archaeological methods, have restored the military life of generals in the Shang Dynasty. The venue also showcased 23 carriages unearthed from the Yin Ruins, showcasing the spectacular scene of "cars rattling and horses rustling" at that time. A large number of exquisite and unparalleled cultural relics showcase the peak of the bronze civilization over 3000 years ago from different perspectives, and also allow the audience to experience the exquisite craftsmanship of the Shang Dynasty up close. Yin Ruins is the first capital city site of the late Shang Dynasty in Chinese history to be documented, confirmed by archaeological excavations and oracle bone inscriptions. It is also the ancient capital city site with the most archaeological excavations and the longest duration in China, and is known as the cradle of modern Chinese archaeology. The new exhibition of the Yin Ruins Museum is not only a systematic summary and powerful presentation of the research results of Yin Ruins archaeology and commercial civilization, but also a new starting point for the protection and utilization of Yin Ruins in the new era, with important significance in carrying forward the past and opening up the future. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and other institutions have established an expert group for the compilation of knowledge texts in the Yin Ruins Museum, conducting multiple on-site investigations, expert online and offline discussions, and comprehensively and systematically compiling millions of words of knowledge texts, providing strong academic support for the exhibition of the new museum. The new Yinxu Museum will open at 8:00 a.m. on February 22 for reservation. Visitors can make reservations in advance through the Yinxu Museum's WeChat official account, official website and Yinxu Scenic Area's official account. (Lai Xin She)
