Canadian Buddhist Academy Announces Establishment

The Canadian Buddhist Association and Victoria University of Toronto officially signed a joint agreement on February 14th to establish the Canadian Buddhist Academy through the Emmanuel School of Religion. This is Canada's first Buddhist college established in collaboration with higher education institutions. On February 14th local time, in Toronto, Canada, Ken Chan (first from right), Chief Executive Officer of Victoria University at the University of Toronto, along with HyeRan Kim Cragg (center), Dean of the Manelli School of Religion, and Monk Dayi, President of the Canadian Buddhist Association, jointly signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Canadian Buddhist Academy. Ken Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Victoria University at the University of Toronto, stated that this joint program reflects the school's commitment to promoting harmony and understanding among different communities. "Through this program, we not only admire the rich educational philosophy of Buddhism, but also reaffirm our commitment to cultivating a culture of respect, tolerance, and compassion.". He also announced that the Canadian Buddhist Association will establish the "Da Yi Da Monk Scholarship" at the Immanuel Religious Institute. This is the first Buddhist scholarship of the college, which rewards two outstanding students each year who are dedicated to Buddhism and Buddhist research. According to HyeRan Kim Cragg, Dean of the Maneli School of Religion, the Canadian Buddhist Academy is the first continuing Buddhist education program at the school. The President of the Canadian Buddhist Association, Monk Dayi, stated that he has made a grand wish over the years to establish the Canadian Buddhist Academy, and his wish is finally fulfilled. In the future, through joint education, the University of Toronto will provide professors to teach students in Mount Wutai, Canada. He expressed that his past academic experiences in China and the United States have deeply appreciated the importance of higher education, and he hopes that Buddhist scholars can use their knowledge to purify people's hearts and give back to society. Victoria University of Toronto and Emmanuel College also held a cross religious dialogue event to celebrate the Lunar New Year on the same day. The University of Toronto is a world-renowned institution of higher education. Emmanuel College, affiliated with the University of Toronto Victoria, is a prestigious religious institution with a history of nearly a century.
