Digital education connects mountains and seas (following the 2024 World Digital Education Conference)
2024-02-07
Naomi, a student at Pradita University in Indonesia, is not unfamiliar with prestigious Chinese universities. In Jakarta, she took online courses related to digital design at Tsinghua University, so she didn't have to come to Beijing to have access to the high-quality educational resources provided by this top university... Since the door to digital education opened, people and teaching resources have been connected in an unprecedented form, breadth, and depth. Digital education enables more high-quality resources to break through time and space, connect urban and rural areas, cross mountains and seas, and promote social justice through educational equity. The 2024 World Digital Education Conference will be held in Shanghai from January 30th to 31st. The theme of this conference is "Digital Education: Application, Sharing, and Innovation", with a focus on in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics such as improving teacher digital literacy and competence, digitalization of education and the construction of a learning society, global trends and index evaluation of digital education development, artificial intelligence and digital ethics, challenges and opportunities of digital transformation for basic education, and digitalization and digital education governance in education. A vast future with no boundaries in education is coming. Digital Bridge Spreads Knowledge. Ningxia Guyuan Caowa Primary School and Fujian Xiamen Sixth Middle School are separated by more than 2100 kilometers, one in a deep mountain valley and the other in a blue sky and wide sea. Through the National Smart Education Platform for Primary and Secondary Schools, the songs of Ludao have been sung into the red brick houses in Xihaigu, and the children of Caowa Elementary School have learned the Akabela version of "The Brightest Star in the Night Sky". Guo Rui, a teacher at Caowa Elementary School, said that he hopes children can see mountains, rivers, oceans, and even farther places like stars. Digital education has changed the classroom teaching mode, allowing rural students to enjoy better teaching resources. Returning to the beginning of 2022, with the launch of the national smart education platform, China's digital education strategy has entered the fast lane. In the past two years, the National Smart Education Platform has connected 519000 schools, radiating 18.8 million teachers, 293 million students, and a wide range of social learners, with visiting users covering more than 200 countries and regions worldwide. As of the end of 2023, the cumulative registered users of the platform have exceeded 100 million, with over 36.7 billion views and 2.5 billion visitors. The stacking, doubling, and spillover effects of digital technology are fully demonstrated. At the same time, the smart higher education platform has newly established a "course creation platform" section, which systematically integrates and gathers innovative and entrepreneurial elements and resources. Nearly 500 innovative and entrepreneurial courses have been selected to improve students' innovation and knowledge transformation abilities. Chinese Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng introduced that in the past year, China has continuously promoted the application of digital education, and the coverage of high-quality digital resources has significantly increased. Focusing on narrowing regional disparities, we have implemented the "MOOC Western Tour Plan 2.0", providing 198000 MOOCs and customized courses, and serving 540 million students in western universities. At the same time, based on promoting rural revitalization, the first phase of digital teaching innovation experiment will be launched in 2023, providing more than 2500 courses in science popularization, art, and other fields to 14000 rural primary and secondary school students. "Nowadays, volunteers from East China Normal University located in Shanghai, China can experience traditional culture, perceive the forefront of technology, and exchange inner worlds with elementary school students from Xundian Hui and Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, thousands of miles away through the platform."
