This is the first batch of domestically produced health food registration certificates obtained for products made from soy protein isolate and whey protein since the bureau released the health food raw material catalog in June 2023. It is reported that the inclusion of both plant protein and animal protein in the list of health food raw materials is mainly aimed at improving the targeting of health food users and effectively limiting product exaggeration. In addition, the technical requirements set for these two protein raw materials have increased the protein content indicators while strictly adhering to the food safety bottom line. The content indicators have all met the standards for high-quality protein raw materials, ensuring the provision of high-quality protein products for people with protein deficiency. In order to promote the development of the directory of health food raw materials, the State Administration for Market Regulation has drafted the "Catalogue of Health Food Raw Materials - Soybean Protein Isolates" and "Catalogue of Health Food Raw Materials - Whey Protein" based on the actual situation of the formula, function, safety, quality control, and other registered production of protein powder health food, combined with the research results of the Chinese Nutrition Society and other organizations on the health function and dosage of soy protein isolate and whey protein. In order to ensure the smooth progress of product filing after the official implementation of the raw material catalog, the State Administration for Market Regulation has made detailed requirements for the formula compatibility, registration transfer situation, daily dosage, and population of protein products during filing, based on the situation of approved registered products and actual production. The two raw material catalogs have broken through the previous single raw material filing model, allowing protein and nutrient compound filing, providing enterprises with a wider research and development space, making the variety of protein powder health foods in the market more diverse, and allowing consumers to have more choices.
