On the morning of the 29th, at Faku Caihu Airport in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China's first domestically developed aviation aircraft powered by a hydrogen internal combustion engine, the world's first four seat hydrogen internal combustion aircraft prototype, successfully made its maiden flight. It is understood that the prototype of this test flight is equipped with the first 2.0-liter zero emission turbocharged direct injection hydrogen fuel internal combustion engine in China, with an engine power of 120 kW after testing. The on-site test pilot stated that the aircraft has sufficient power, low vibration, and good handling performance. Safety is the primary goal in the development of hydrogen internal combustion aircraft. In order to prevent detonation caused by hydrogen leakage, Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute has set up ventilation channels in corresponding parts of the aircraft through digital simulation analysis, cleverly utilizing the airflow during flight to achieve air circulation in the hydrogen storage compartment and timely discharge of leaked hydrogen. In the research and development process, Yang Fengtian, an academician of the CAE Member, led the team to constantly promote technology improvement in combination with future application scenarios. During the structural design process, the project team independently developed a special combination shock absorber for hydrogen internal combustion engines based on the vibration frequency characteristics of the engine, reducing the vibration intensity to 40% of that of aircraft of the same power level, greatly improving the pilot's flight comfort. It is reported that the aircraft plans to participate in an air show in Germany in April and conduct a demonstration of ground operation with propellers. (Lai Xin She)
