Uzbekistan: Tourism has become an important driving force for economic growth

2024-01-18

The tourism industry in Uzbekistan has enormous potential. According to statistics, the annual tourism service volume in Uzbekistan has exceeded 2 billion US dollars in 2023. In recent years, Uzbekistan has successfully hosted multiple influential world-class events, and the enormous potential of its domestic tourism industry has been highly recognized at the international level. Many large international companies and tourists are increasingly interested in the tourism industry in the region. Over the past six or seven years, Uzbekistan has been promoting reforms in the tourism sector and achieving remarkable development results, with one of the most important driving forces coming from the initiative of the head of state to develop the tourism industry. Since Shavkat Mirziyoyev took office as president, Ukraine has introduced and promoted a series of policies to promote the development of the tourism industry, making it an important driving force for economic development. With the support of the people, the government has also initiated fundamental changes in various fields such as industry and people's livelihoods. The results of large-scale reforms are clearly reflected in the tourism industry and other fields, including the complete transformation of the appearance of central cities and various regions, as well as the improvement of the living standards of people in remote villages and towns. This not only prepares for increasing tourist traffic, but also solves various problems in domestic socio-economic life. The reform effect was particularly obvious during the COVID-19 epidemic. Despite the significant impact on the global tourism industry and the enormous losses suffered by many countries, Uzbekistan's tourism industry has continued to grow despite slowing down its development progress. This is largely due to the comprehensive support of the country for the tourism industry, manifested in reliable credit policies, customs and tax incentives, as well as multiple measures that can effectively help solve urgent problems in the tourism industry based on actual situations. Therefore, even though the global tourism industry has not fully recovered, the number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan has steadily increased after the outbreak of the epidemic. In the past year, about 7 million foreign tourists have arrived in Ukraine, which is almost 3.7 times more than the data in 2021; The export volume of tourism services in Ukraine also exceeded the annual target with a good performance of 2 billion US dollars. The development of Uzbekistan's domestic tourism industry has also exceeded expectations. In 2023, the "Tour of Uzbekistan!" program was highly effective, with cities across the country receiving over 20 million domestic tourists; With the support of the Tourism Commission of Ukraine, more than 570000 youth tours and over 1000 disabled tours have been organized nationwide. From January to November 2023 alone, the average expenditure per tourist during their stay in Ukraine reached $326. By country, the average consumption of tourists from Asia and Europe is $1066, the average consumption of tourists from CIS countries is $743, and the average consumption of tourists from neighboring countries is $154 to $257, all of which are several times higher than in the past. The benefits brought by the booming development of the tourism industry can not only better optimize the industry, but also provide financial support for more national projects that improve people's living standards. At a press conference held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, at the end of 2023, Ibrahim Barnayev, Director of the Uzbekistan Tourism Commission, stated that the development level of Uzbekistan's tourism industry in 2023 will far exceed various periods before the epidemic and will enter a comprehensive and direct growth. To better achieve the vision, reforms in energy, transportation, financial system, industry, services, trade, medicine, and other economic sectors are also crucial. The open and free policy initiated by the President of Uzbekistan, the unity of the country and society, the establishment of open dialogue with the people at all levels of livelihood, and effective foreign policy are the decisive factors for the overall effectiveness of the reform. The development trend of Uzbekistan's tourism industry also clearly demonstrates the country's determination and strength in reform. The tourism industry in Ukraine started from the most inconspicuous position and has achieved a qualitative leap in a short period of time. It has now become an internationally recognized important driving force for the country's economic development. In the context of Uzbekistan's vigorous implementation of development and transformation in recent years, its tourism industry will also shoulder more important tasks and bear greater expectations.
