Ultra sensitive soft micro robots assist precision medicine
2024-01-17
On January 15, the reporter learned from the Shenzhen Advanced Technology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that Xu Haifeng, an associate researcher of the Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering, has developed a software micro robot with super sensitivity, which is expected to provide new methods for microsurgery and targeted drug delivery. The relevant research results are published in Nature Nanotechnology. Xu Haifeng introduced that in the development process of ultra sensitive soft micro robots, the research team used the first constructed 4D nanoelastic lithography strategy with elastic modulus dimension to prepare the most sensitive artificial spring system to date. Its detection sensitivity reaches 500 flying cows, achieving micro level deformation under the force of a leather cow. It is reported that based on the successful development of ultra sensitive soft micro robots, Xu Haifeng's team is currently conducting research and development of new precision medical equipment, such as ultra precision cell mechanics automated characterization platform and non-interference cell manipulation platform, and plans to gradually apply them to cell biology and clinical research. "In the future, new minimally invasive and even non-invasive soft micro robots will further provide effective assistance for medical tasks such as cell mechanics research, in vivo fertilization, small lumen thrombus clearance, and neural intervention." Xu Haifeng said. Feng Xiqiao, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Mechanics and Professor at the Institute of Biomechanics and Medical Engineering at Tsinghua University, commented on the achievement, "This work has inspired a new approach to explore the principles of mechanochemical coupling dynamics of molecules, cells, and tissues under physiological and pathological conditions."
