The ruling party in Bangladesh won over half of the seats in the general election

According to preliminary results released by officials from the Bangladesh Election Commission on the evening of the 7th, the People's Alliance led by current Prime Minister Hasina has won more than half of the seats in the National Assembly elections held that day. The election voting will be held from 8:00 to 16:00 local time on the 7th, with a total of 1970 candidates competing for 299 out of 300 seats in the parliament. The Meng Election Commission previously announced that due to the death of a candidate in one of the constituencies, according to relevant laws, the elections in that constituency will be suspended, and the vacant seat will be filled in a by election later. Members of the National Assembly of Bangladesh are elected directly from their respective constituencies. Members of parliament can be independent individuals or belong to a certain political party, serving a term of 5 years and can be re elected indefinitely. If a party obtains more than half of the 300 seats in parliament and becomes a majority party, it can form a government and appoint a prime minister. (Lai Xin She)
