Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, stated on the 3rd that China is willing to work tirelessly with all parties to promote the cooling of tensions in the Red Sea, the political resolution of the Yemen issue, the ceasefire and cessation of war in Gaza, and long-term peace and stability in the Middle East. Geng Shuang stated at the emergency public meeting of the Security Council on the situation in the Red Sea that the waters of the Red Sea are important transportation channels for goods and energy. Ensuring the smooth flow of the waters and ensuring the safety of passing ships not only helps to maintain regional peace and stability, but also helps to maintain global supply chain security and international trade order, which is in line with the common interests of the international community. China is concerned about the multiple attacks and seizures of commercial ships in the Red Sea waters over the past period of time, and calls on relevant parties to stop harassing civilian ships and respect and guarantee the freedom of navigation of all countries in the Red Sea waters. The Chinese side believes that all parties, especially influential major powers, should play a constructive and responsible role in maintaining the safety of navigation channels in the Red Sea area. Geng Shuang said that currently, the Yemen issue is at a critical juncture. The tense situation in the Red Sea has brought new challenges to advancing the political process in Yemen and added new complex factors to the already turbulent Middle East region. China calls on all relevant parties to remain calm and restrained, adhere to dialogue and consultation, promote political solutions, avoid any actions that exacerbate tensions, and make every effort to maintain a positive political situation in Yemen. Geng Shuang emphasized that the current tense situation in the Red Sea is one of the manifestations of the spillover effects of the Gaza conflict. Early implementation of a ceasefire and cessation of war in Gaza, as well as easing the local humanitarian crisis, can help prevent further escalation of the Red Sea situation and prevent other regions in the Middle East from being dragged into conflict and turmoil.
