The Omatinga Wind Farm in Naqu City, Xizang Autonomous Region was officially put into operation on January 1, with a total installed capacity of 100 MW. It is the wind farm with the largest single unit capacity and installed capacity in China's ultra-high altitude areas. This wind farm can provide about 200 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, save about 60000 tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 160000 tons. The Omatinga Wind Farm is located in Nagqu Town, Seni District, Nagqu City. The average elevation of the site is 4650 meters, with a total investment of 640 million yuan. It uses 25 permanent magnet direct drive wind turbines with a single unit capacity of 4.0 megawatts. This is the first new energy project in Xizang to be approved, filed and started in 2023, creating a new energy project construction record of "approved, started and completed in the same year" in Xizang. "In the 261 day construction process, we overcame many problems, such as the difficulty of concrete construction in ultra-high altitude areas, the higher requirements for equipment selection and manufacturing due to low air density, and the frequent wind and snow freezing weather testing the equipment's withstand voltage and insulation effect." Hu Jiansheng, deputy general manager of Naqu Branch of National Energy Group Xizang Electric Power Co., Ltd., said that they adopted the low wind speed direct drive wind turbine with superior performance, enhanced the ultra-high altitude adaptability of the unit through advanced technology, greatly improved the overall operating efficiency and life of the generator unit, and effectively guaranteed the power generation.
