Global 6G racing has begun, urgent need to lay out network endogenous security capabilities in advance

2023-12-28

Currently, the 6G race is fully underway, and the next five years will be a critical period for the research and development of 6G mobile communication network technology and the improvement of standards. Multiple organizations and countries around the world have fully launched 6G research ITU/3GPP and actively laid out the 6G network vision and standards. In February 2020, the International Telecommunication Union's 5D Working Group on Wireless Communications (ITU RWP 5D) confirmed the plan for writing the report on "Future Technology Trends", officially marking the beginning of 6G research work. In November 2022, "International Mobile Communication Technology Trends for 2030 and the Future" was released. In June 2023, the ITU reviewed and approved the "IMT Framework and Overall Goal Proposal for 2030 and Future Development". During the formulation process, the proposal received suggestions and viewpoints from administrative departments, regulatory agencies, operators, equipment manufacturers, research institutions, and other units in Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Africa, and Oceania, bringing together the global vision and consensus on 6G. At the same time, ITU/3GPP has preliminarily planned a 6G standardization path, and it is expected to form 6G KPIs by 2026 and officially launch the development of 6G standards. The United States actively collaborates with its allies to carry out technological cooperation. In March 2019, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States was the first to open the 95GHz to 3THz frequency band for experimental research on 6G technology. In 2020, the Telecommunications Industry Solutions Alliance (ATIS) in the United States led the formation of the Next G Alliance with ICT companies from Japan, Europe, and South Korea to jointly plan the 6G strategic roadmap. In 2022, they successively released "6G Applications and Use Cases" and "6G Technology", proposing 47 key 6G candidate technologies such as 6G use cases, terahertz, and multi access network services. In May 2023, the US 6G Alliance released a 6G vertical industry roadmap, exploring the expectations of eight major vertical sectors, including agriculture, automotive, and industry, for 6G technology. The EU integrates multiple forces to comprehensively promote technological research. The European Union has established the 6G Intelligent Network and Service Industry Alliance (6G-IA) and signed memorandums of understanding on 6G cooperation with organizations such as the IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group, the Next G Alliance in the United States, and ETSI, including standardization, spectrum research, research and development projects, technical research, etc., to promote research cooperation in B5G and 6G. In 2023, the "6G Architecture View White Paper" was officially released, which proposed the vision of 6G network architecture, capability requirements, technology trends, and other aspects from the perspective of the European Union. South Korea's collaboration between government, industry, academia, and research has taken the lead in the commercialization of 6G. In April 2019, South Korea established a 6G research group to preliminarily define 6G and its applications. Subsequently, Korean communication giants such as Samsung Electronics, LG, and SK Telecom successively established enterprise 6G research centers or laboratories. In February 2023, the South Korean Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications released the "K-WORK 2030" strategy, increasing investment in 6G technology research and development, actively seizing the opportunity, and deciding to achieve the world's first early commercialization of 6G technology by 2028. Japan is taking multiple measures to advance its 6G research and development. Since the release of the 6G Technology Comprehensive Strategic Plan Outline and Roadmap in 2020
