On the 26th, the Foreign Affairs Committee of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly passed a bill on Sweden's accession to the NATO protocol, which will be submitted to the Grand National Assembly for discussion and voting. On the same day, the Foreign Affairs Committee of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly discussed the proposal on Sweden's accession to the NATO protocol. The Justice and Development Party, the largest party in the parliament, the Republican People's Party and the National Action Party all supported the adoption of the proposal. Finally, the Foreign Affairs Committee of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly voted to pass the bill. The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly, Fouad Okthai, said that Sweden has made progress in combating the flow of funds to terrorism, but it has not achieved the results expected by Türkiye in combating terrorism. The bill will then be submitted to Türkiye's Grand National Assembly for discussion and voting. Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan submitted a proposal to the parliament on October 24 to approve Sweden's accession to NATO, but the agenda for considering the proposal has been postponed since then. Sweden and Finland will both apply to join NATO in May 2022. According to regulations, all NATO member states must unanimously agree to accept new members. Finland was officially approved to join NATO in April this year, but Sweden's accession protocol has not yet been ratified by Türkiye and Hungary. (Lai Xin She)
