Observing the Development of Modern Agriculture along the Great Wall in Hebei Province
2023-12-20
In recent years, at the foot of the Great Wall in Yanshan and Taihang Mountains of Hebei Province, modern agriculture, which integrates multiple industries, has developed rapidly. A new picture of enriching the people and promoting agriculture, centered around the Great Wall, has slowly unfolded. In mid winter, in the Yanshan Great Wall area of Qianxi County, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, many crops gradually wither due to seasonal reasons, while the planting greenhouses in Tiemenguan Village, Luanyang Town are full of vitality. Planter Lin Ze shuttles through the greenhouse, busy picking ripe strawberries. "The fruits and radishes grown in the greenhouse have already harvested abundantly, and nearly 10 acres of strawberries are growing well and can be harvested sustainably until May next year." Lin Ze said, and the nearby soft date kiwifruit demonstration park is also undergoing field management. Tiemenguan Village is located at the foot of the Great Wall of Yanshan. Due to its remote geographical location, single industrial structure, and weak collective economy, it was once known as a poor village. In recent years, the village has innovated the "branch led cooperative" model and established a professional cooperative for planting, integrating idle and scattered resources and funds in rural areas. A 107 acre high-efficiency agricultural demonstration park has been built, and strawberries and various vegetables have been planted in a three-dimensional manner. "Since the beginning of this year, the whole village has achieved a collective income of 2.6 million yuan," said Liu Hongjia, Secretary of the Party Branch of Tiemenguan Village. The village has been successively rated as a "National Civilized Village" and a "National Rural Governance Demonstration Village". Like Tiemenguan Village, in recent years, many villages along the Great Wall in Tangshan have vigorously developed characteristic planting, relying on the cultural resources of the Great Wall to build characteristic towns. While driving people to increase income and become prosperous, the overall appearance of the mountain towns has also achieved a transformation, with each well-off village "string pearls together" along the Great Wall. The Taihang Mountains in winter have scattered peaks, peaceful and magnificent. At the Malingguan Great Wall located in Xindu District, Xingtai City, tourists constantly come to admire it. As an important pass on the northern border of China since the Qin and Han dynasties, there are still architectural relics such as the Great Wall walls, gate gates, guard posts, and beacon towers preserved here to this day. At the foot of the Great Wall, there is a persimmon cake processing base in Mingshui Village, Songjiazhuang Town. Villager Wang Jianyun is packaging the processed persimmon cakes, and the air is filled with a sweet and fragrant taste. "Since the beginning of winter, tall persimmon trees hanging with fruits can be seen everywhere in the mountain valleys." Wang Jianyun said that after processing persimmons into persimmon cakes, they can be sold for about 6 yuan per kilogram, and the supply is in short supply. Persimmons were once an important ingredient for the people of the mountain villages at the foot of the Great Wall to fill their stomachs, but with increasingly abundant material conditions, they have also fallen into the dilemma of "red persimmons full of branches and no one asking". Wang Jianyun told reporters, "Hard persimmons that have just been picked are bitter and astringent, and cannot be eaten directly. Soft persimmons have a sweet and fragrant taste, but cannot be stored for a long time. Therefore, the locals have thought of agricultural product processing. In recent years, Songjiazhuang Town has developed a characteristic planting industry of 150000 acres of persimmons, apples, and other fruits, with an annual output of 25900 tons of various fruits, relying on the vast mountainous areas and suitable ecological environment around the Malingguan Great Wall.", And guide farmers to finely process agricultural products such as persimmons to increase the added value of agricultural and sideline products. "Local cooperatives purchase persimmons in bulk for deep processing, absorbing idle labor from surrounding rural areas for nearby employment." Xu Ding, Secretary of the Party Committee of Songjiazhuang Town, said that the cooperatives have also opened up transportation channels such as logistics and express delivery, helping more than 2000 mountain and village residents sell self-produced persimmons, achieving growth
