2023-12-19
In 2023, the cooperation between China and the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) continued to heat up, the scope of cooperation continued to expand, and the results of cooperation continued to emerge. Green energy cooperation has become a highlight. "We are proud to collaborate with Chinese companies to build photovoltaic power plants. This project will actively help Saudi Arabia achieve its carbon reduction goals." Referring to the cooperation with Chinese companies on the Saudi Arabian Al Schubach photovoltaic power plant project with a total installed capacity of about 2.6 gigawatts, the project owner, Fazi Sayyidi, Executive Vice President of Saudi International Power and Water Company's Red Sea region, said. The headquarters of the Gulf Cooperation Council is located in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, with member countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. It is the most important political, economic, and security organization in the Gulf region. Green and clean energy cooperation has become a highlight of energy cooperation between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Chinese companies have become the main force in the local clean energy supply by constructing photovoltaic power stations in countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. Not long ago, the world's largest single photovoltaic power station, the Al Dafra Photovoltaic Power Station in the United Arab Emirates, which was contracted by a Chinese enterprise, was fully completed. This photovoltaic power station can supply electricity to 200000 households and reduce carbon emissions by 2.4 million tons annually, increasing the proportion of clean energy in the total energy structure of the UAE to over 13%. At the same time, Chinese made new energy vehicles are favored in the GCC countries. In Kuwait, the first electric bus was produced by China Jinlong Company and officially put into operation on January 1st this year. In Qatar, pure electric buses currently account for 80% of the total number of buses, and almost all pure electric buses are made in China. "In this country, energy seems to be inexhaustible, but clean energy is definitely better. People always have to plan for the long term," said Qatari driver Isaac Ensubga, who drives electric buses made in China, to reporters. "Economic and trade cooperation is developing rapidly." China is currently the largest trading partner of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and economic and trade cooperation between the two sides is of great significance. "Sultan Hatil, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, said in his speech at the China Gulf Cooperation Council 6+1 Economic and Trade Ministerial Meeting held in Guangzhou, China in October. This meeting focuses on the implementation of economic and trade measures at the first China Gulf Arab States Cooperation Council Summit, reaching a broad consensus on issues such as jointly maintaining the multilateral trading system, promoting two-way investment, deepening industrial and supply chain cooperation, improving connectivity, and promoting energy transformation. Saudi Arabia is China's first billion dollar trading partner in the Middle East, promoting trade and investment, and the investment cooperation between the two countries continues to expand. "In the past year, we have witnessed multiple investment cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia, which makes us full of expectations for the future of investment cooperation between the two countries." Saudi Deputy Minister of Investment Saleh Habti said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency at the 7th Saudi Arabia "Future Investment Initiative" conference held in Riyadh in October. This month, the China Saudi Arabia Investment Conference was held in Beijing. According to Saudi media reports, the two sides have signed over 60 cooperation agreements and memorandums, covering various fields such as energy, agriculture, tourism, mining, finance, logistics, healthcare, etc. China's economic, trade and investment cooperation with other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council has shown positive results
