According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on the 11th, China's grain production has achieved another bumper harvest in 2023, with the annual grain production reaching a new historical high. The total national grain production was 139082 billion kilograms, an increase of 17.76 billion kilograms or 1.3% compared to the previous year, and remained stable at over 1.3 trillion kilograms for nine consecutive years. According to statistical data, in 2023, the national grain sowing area was 1.785 billion mu, an increase of 9.546 million mu or 0.5% compared to the previous year. Among them, the national grain sowing area was 1.499 billion mu, an increase of 9.863 million mu or 0.7% compared to the previous year; The sowing area of beans in China is 180 million mu, an increase of 1.743 million mu or 1% compared to the previous year. Wang Guirong, Director of the Rural Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, stated that in 2023, although some areas in Northeast China experienced floods, most agricultural areas in the country had a good match of light, temperature, and water, and meteorological conditions were generally conducive to the growth and development of grain crops and yield formation. At the same time, this year, we will carry out a large-scale increase in the yield of major crops such as grain and oil, with a focus on promoting tolerant varieties and integrating supporting cultivation techniques, resulting in significant implementation effects. The national grain yield per mu is 389.7 kilograms, an increase of 2.9 kilograms or 0.8% compared to the previous year. It is reported that in 2023, the national summer grain production was 292.3 billion catties, a decrease of 2.5 billion catties from the previous year, a decrease of 0.8%; The early rice yield was 56.67 billion kilograms, an increase of 430 million kilograms or 0.8% compared to the previous year. The planting area of autumn crops in the country has steadily increased, with most areas experiencing mild disasters, especially in the northern arid areas where there is abundant rainfall and good soil moisture, resulting in an increase in autumn grain production. Last year, high temperatures and drought in some areas of the Yangtze River Basin led to a reduction in autumn grain production. This year, the agricultural meteorological situation is normal, achieving a restorative increase in production. "In 2023, the national grain production reached a new high, laying a solid foundation for comprehensively promoting rural revitalization and accelerating the construction of an agricultural power. It provided strong support for accelerating the construction of a new development pattern and promoting high-quality development, and also made positive contributions to stabilizing the global grain market and maintaining world food security." Wang Guirong said. (Lai Xin She)
