The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, held "E-commerce Week" from the 4th to the 8th. At the thematic sub forum held on the 7th, more than a hundred representatives from international organizations, as well as the political, business, and academic circles, conducted exchanges and dialogues on trade digitization and cross-border e-commerce, focusing on the driving role of digital technology development in global economic and trade cooperation. The theme sub forum of that day, the 2023 Round Table on Trade Digitization and Cross border E-commerce Development, was jointly hosted by the China Electronic Commerce Association, the United Nations, and the International Trade Center, a joint institution of the World Trade Organization. In the three dialogue segments of "New Trends," "New Talents," and "New Applications," the attending representatives analyzed cases and shared practical experience to explore the new trends in the field of trade digitization and cross-border e-commerce, and provided suggestions for the future development of the industry. Wang Ning, President of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, said at the roundtable that trade digitization is an important driving force for supporting global trade growth. He looks forward to countries around the world jointly building trade data standards and security systems, promoting mutual recognition and exchange, maintaining data security, and jointly creating a good environment for trade digitization cooperation to promote the prosperity and development of global trade. In addition, cross-border e-commerce has become an important force in promoting the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in global trade cooperation. It is necessary to formulate unified cross-border e-commerce tax standards globally as soon as possible to promote the long-term development of the industry. According to Mimuni, Director of Market Development at the International Trade Center, e-commerce represents a huge opportunity for small businesses in developing countries. It is necessary to increase investment and support in infrastructure and personnel training for developing countries, so that they can fully enjoy the dividends of e-commerce. Liang Hong, Minister Counselor of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in Geneva, stated that this round table will focus on trade digitization and cross-border e-commerce, and it is of positive significance to discuss cutting-edge issues on the United Nations platform.
