Chinese Ambassador to Ningxia: Experience the Pulse of Rural Revitalization on the Loess Plateau of China

2023-11-24

From November 20th to 22nd, more than ten ambassadors and diplomats from Ghana, Bulgaria, Japan, Australia, and Germany visited Ningxia, China, to experience the story of rural revitalization on the loess land of northwest China. In recent years, the rise and rapid development of the wine industry in Ningxia have made the former Gobi Desert a treasure trove of high-quality wine grapes. Nowadays, 138 million bottles of wine are exported from Ningxia to the world every year, not only generating considerable economic benefits, but also fulfilling the "dream of enriching the people" of helping farmers increase their income. Every November, hundreds of thousands of acres of high-quality wine grapes in the eastern foothills of Helan Mountain in Ningxia welcome the "hibernation season". At the ten thousand acre grape planting base located at the eastern foot of Helan Mountain, winery staff are systematically carrying out the "burying vines" agricultural process to prevent grape vines from being drained and frostbitten in winter. This scene aroused great interest from the Chinese envoy. They not only inquired in detail about the varieties and history of local grape cultivation from agricultural technicians, but also experienced the process of grape binding and burying vines on site. "The practice of burying vines in winter and expanding them in spring the following year is very distinctive and has important reference significance for developing countries to develop agriculture according to local conditions," said Winfred Hammond, Ghana's Ambassador to China. In a winery located in the suburbs of Yinchuan City, Ningxia, the main building made of abandoned stones in the mining area allows envoys to stop and take photos from time to time. It is hard to imagine that from the abandoned Helan Mountain mine, a cultural and tourism integrated industrial zone with a strong sense of modernity can emerge for a long time. "Unbelievable! You have turned the desolate Gobi Desert into today's green treasure trove and produced world-class wines." Hammond expressed heartfelt emotion, "As an ecologist and agronomist, I will bring your experience back to our country." Konmatsu Maohong, Director of the Beijing Office of the Japan Association for the Internationalization of Self Governance, deeply felt that this trip was worthwhile: Before coming to Ningxia, I did my homework in advance. After coming to Ningxia, I didn't expect that in this arid climate area, greening and ecological protection work would be done so well. Relying on the development of the wine industry, Ningxia has "greened" 350000 acres of barren land on the eastern foot of Helan Mountain, further strengthening the ecological barrier. After gaining a detailed understanding of the development of the wine industry in Ningxia, several ambassadors to China proactively approached on-site sales personnel to inquire about their contact information, expressing their willingness to actively promote active communication between their domestic wineries and promote pragmatic cooperation between the two sides. Deng Fei, Food and Agriculture Counselor of the German Embassy in China, stated that German wine has now incorporated the concept of cultural tourism, which coincides with China's approach. I hope to have further cooperation with Ningxia, China in agriculture, culture, tourism, and other areas in the future. "We are eager to share Bulgaria's wine making experience and professional knowledge with Ningxia, and look forward to establishing a long-term and effective partnership in the wine industry to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.". During the visit, the representatives of the Chinese embassy in China were also amazed by the magnificent epic of China's East West cooperation vividly demonstrated in Ningxia. In 1996, according to the decision and deployment of the Chinese government's East West Poverty Alleviation Cooperation, located on the coast of the East China Sea
