What is the current situation of aesthetic education in China's compulsory education stage? What are the shortcomings? How should we exert force? Regarding the above issues, the research group of the School of Art and Media at Beijing Normal University conducted questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews with frontline teachers and students in 18 cities in Beijing, Hunan, Hebei, Sichuan, and other provinces. They conducted in-depth investigations on the current status and existing problems of aesthetic education in China's compulsory education stage, and proposed countermeasures and suggestions on how to promote the implementation of aesthetic education. On the lawn of the Central Primary School Park in Renmin Town, Anda City, Heilongjiang Province, the research group of the School of Art and Media, Beijing Normal University, teachers and students sing together. At present, the development of art education in the compulsory education stage of Xinhua Social Development is steadily improving, and the team of art teachers is gradually expanding, showing specialization and high education. Between 2015 and 2020, the number of aesthetic education teachers in compulsory education in China increased from 599000 to 778000, with an increase of 179000 over five years, with an average growth rate of 7.8%; The proportion of aesthetic education teachers in the total number of full-time teachers has increased from 6.5% to 7.5%. In the survey, it was found that 82.5% of the art teachers interviewed had a professional background in the art field, with 4% having a college degree or below and 81% having a bachelor's degree. They are the main force of the art teacher team, with 14.5% having a master's degree or above. This indicates that the overall level and professional competence of aesthetic education teachers in China's compulsory education stage are showing a good situation. Ms. Zhao, a music teacher at a primary school in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, stated that the school she teaches has a total of 9 music teachers, all of whom graduated from the music major. Among them, two senior teachers have a junior college degree, six teachers have a bachelor's degree, and one teacher who has joined in recent years has a master's degree. The overall teaching level of the music discipline at the school is showing a continuous upward trend. We often participate in teaching competitions organized by cities, districts, schools, and other institutions to enhance our professional competence and consolidate our basic teaching skills. The teaching quality of art courses has significantly improved compared to before, and teachers' teaching ability and professional competence have become an important criterion for assessment. The art courses have been carried out smoothly, and over 80% of primary and secondary school students are able to receive general art courses at school. According to the research group's data, 87% of the surveyed teachers' schools can ensure that each class can carry out art courses 1-2 times a week, and more than half of the teachers have not had art courses occupied. Shao Shuo, a music teacher at Ruide School in Qian'an City, Hebei Province, said, "We have two music classes and two art classes per week in each class. Nowadays, primary school art courses are usually not occupied by the main teacher. In addition, the allocation of art equipment is also steadily improving. In 2019, the national primary school art equipment compliance rate reached 95.07%
