On November 11th, in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, at the opening ceremony of the 5th Henan Opera Art Festival and the "Salute to Xiangyu" series of activities, regular inheritors performed. The Chang School of Art founded by Chang Xiangyu is highly respected, and there is a saying in the Chinese Yu Opera industry that "no actor can learn from Chang". This year marks the 100th anniversary of Chang Xiangyu's birth, with commemoration and reminiscing of Chang Xiangyu running through it. After the brief opening ceremony, the 5th Yu Opera Art Festival opened with the sound of Li Yuan. Portraits of Yu Opera masters such as Chang Xiangyu, Chen Suzhen, Cui Lantian, and Ma Jinfeng appeared prominently above the stage screen. The audience paid tribute to them with thunderous applause, making people moved. The opening ceremony performance of that evening was divided into four chapters: "Tracing Back to the Source," "Inheriting the Fireworks," "Saluting Xiangyu," and "Creating Brilliance Again." Famous Yu Opera schools and actors such as Chang, Chen, Cui, and Ma gathered together to reminisce and review the artistic achievements of Master Chang Xiangyu, inspiring the new generation of Yu Opera practitioners to promote the spirit of "drama surpasses heaven". Among them, in the "School Song" segment, Hu Meiling, the inheritor of the Chang School, took the lead in performing Chang Xiangyu's representative work "Mulan". Subsequently, inheritors of Henan Opera schools such as Chen School (Chen Suzhen), Cui School (Cui Lantian), Ma School (Ma Jinfeng), Yan School (Yan Lipin), Sang School (Sang Zhenjun), Tang School (Tang Xicheng), Li School (Li Sizhong), and Niu School (Niu Decao) also appeared one after another, performing classic plays and winning applause. In the chapter of "Saluting Xiangyu", famous actors from Henan Opera, Li Jinzhi and Wang Hui, respectively performed excerpts from "Changxiangyu" titled "Looking at the Fighter Soaring Up from afar" and "You Follow Me in the North and South Volunteer Performances". The background of the performances also displayed scenes of "Xiangyu Drama Society" aircraft and "Drama is Bigger than the Sky". Inheritance is the best commemoration. Classic plays such as "Mulan", "Mu Guiying Takes the Chair", and "Chaoyang Gou" are renowned both domestically and internationally. Nowadays, the baton of inheritance has been passed down to a new generation of Yu Opera performers, represented by Li Shujian and others, who have pushed Yu Opera to the world stage and have been praised by Western audiences as the "Eastern Aria".
