Salute to the warship and the sea, this veteran uses the warship model in his hand to convey his love and dreams

For 40 years, veteran Pan Xiong from Zhangzhou, Fujian Province has been persisting in making warship models - paying tribute to warships and spreading love and dreams to the sea. "Dai Weiguo said," Children, the warship model in front of us is the Navy's 052D destroyer - the Kunming ship, which is currently one of the most advanced missile destroyers in China. "Recently, retired veteran Pan Xiong from Zhangzhou, Fujian Province brought his carefully crafted Kunming ship model, Come to the Second Experimental Kindergarten in Xiangcheng District, Zhangzhou City. Starting from the structure, performance, and operational range of the Kunming ship, he vividly narrated the glorious journey of the People's Navy from scratch to deep blue step by step, providing children with a vivid national defense education lesson. At the event, the children gathered in a circle, listening to equipment knowledge and watching warship models. The majestic hull and realistic naval gun weapon system made the children feast their eyes and couldn't put them down. This model is made of galvanized sheet steel in a ratio of 1:100, completely assembled by hand, and it takes 3 years before and after. Pan Xiong told the author that he has focused on making ship models for nearly 40 years, with an average of building one every two years. He has produced 20 models of various types of ships, including the Liaoning aircraft carrier, and 2 models of the 055 destroyer are currently being produced. Pan Xiong once served in a certain department of the original East China Sea Fleet, engaged in equipment repair work. His three-year military career sparked a strong interest in various types of ships. After retiring in 1983, Pan Xiong often missed his military life. In his spare time, he will participate in various weapon and equipment exhibitions. Once, when he was visiting with a comrade in arms, they looked at the ship models on display and said to themselves, "If only I could have one too!" Pan Xiong had a flash of inspiration and thought, "I can give it a try!" At first, he made relatively simple models of hunting submarines, torpedo boats, gunboats, and so on. As the pace of naval development accelerates, ships become more advanced, and Pan Xiong's models become increasingly complex, which presents him with significant challenges. To this end, Pan Xiong purchased various books and carefully studied the structure of modern naval equipment. Just assembling a proximity gun requires 19 small accessories. "When making a model, Pan Xiong would first draw a blueprint and calculate the angle and size of the accessories from the" model diagram ". Due to the small specifications required for some accessories, which were inconvenient to produce, he came up with the method of "reusing waste items" and tried to find alternative components from daily necessities as much as possible. Toys are used as radars, umbrellas are used as ship fences, light-emitting diodes are used as lighting fixtures, and pill shells are used as radar systems... Although they are "reused", the components are strictly made according to proportion and are exquisitely crafted. Pan Xiong also used the principle of rolling shutter doors to create a parking shed door on the deck, allowing the door to open and facilitate the entry and exit of the "helicopter". The nearly 40 years of "ship building" life have also made Pan Xiong realize the difficulty of perseverance. For me, the most difficult thing is not the specific production techniques, but the entire process that tests physical strength and patience. "Pan Xiong recalled that when he first started making models of Kunming ships, there was very little reference material available. Every day after dinner, he hid in the workshop, often staying overnight. Most of the models I made were given to my former comrades, who, like me, have a different kind of affection for military camps, warships, and the sea
