The 2023 Forum on Marine Cooperation and Governance opened in Sanya, Hainan on the 8th, with over 300 experts, scholars, international organizations, and representatives from maritime departments from over 30 countries and regions around the world attending the forum. Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong stated that China has always been committed to safeguarding the peace and tranquility of the ocean, maintaining fairness and justice in the ocean, safeguarding the cleanliness and beauty of the ocean, and promoting the prosperity of the ocean. China advocates dialogue and consultation and opposes the display of force; Advocate for joint consultation and construction, oppose maritime hegemony; Advocate for win-win cooperation and oppose "small courtyards with high walls"; Advocate for integration and coexistence, and oppose fishing for all. Wang Hong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Director of the National Oceanic Administration, stated that for a long time, China has adhered to the concepts of mutual respect, joint consultation and governance, and open sharing, fully participating in the formulation and implementation of ocean governance mechanisms and related rules within the United Nations framework, and playing a constructive role in the formulation of rules for deep-sea mining, marine biodiversity protection, and other related areas. The Secretary General of the International Seabed Authority, Michael Lodge, and other attending experts believe that the sustainable development of marine space and its resources is a common pursuit of humanity, and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea has made significant contributions to the international peaceful and secure maritime order.
