The Shenzhen Art Museum is the earliest art exhibition institution in Shenzhen, and its predecessor, the Shenzhen Exhibition Hall, was founded in 1976. The early Shenzhen Exhibition Hall actively promoted art exchanges at home and abroad by utilizing the "cultural window" of the special zone and its proximity to Hong Kong and Macao. In 1987, the Shenzhen Exhibition Hall was officially renamed as the Shenzhen Art Museum. Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum). In 2018, the Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum) was included in the "Plan for Accelerating the Construction of Major Cultural and Sports Facilities in Shenzhen" and was completed and opened for trial operation on September 28, 2023. The newly unveiled Shenzhen Art Museum is located in the business center of Shenzhen North Station. As a brand new urban cultural landmark, the Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum) has a building area of 66000 square meters, an exhibition hall area of 20000 square meters, a semi outdoor sculpture exhibition area of 3900 square meters, and 18 art exhibition halls. It is equipped with multi-functional supporting service spaces such as a collection library, academic lecture hall, art library, public education activity space, art restaurant, cultural and creative store, and underground parking lot. It is reported that the Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum) has launched eight major opening exhibitions based on its new academic positioning and the construction of "new traditions", showcasing nearly a thousand classic art works spanning ancient and modern times, both at home and abroad. In this opening series of exhibitions, the integration and innovation of technology and art have become a prominent highlight. As the chief curator of the opening series of exhibitions, Fan Dian, Chairman of the China Artists Association, said that developing technology and art in Shenzhen and building a cutting-edge field of international technology and art exchange is most in line with the cultural characteristics and innovative spirit of this city.
