The 6th Hongqiao International Economic Forum released the "World Open Report 2023" on the 5th. The report released the latest World Openness Index, pointing out that the overall downward trend of world openness in 2022 has continued since 2008, and maintaining and expanding world openness still requires joint efforts and direction from all countries. The World Open Report was first released in 2021 and was jointly written by the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum Research Center. The World Open Index released this time is based on 29 specific quantitative indicators, ranking the openness of 129 economies from 2008 to 2022. The report shows that the World Open Index in 2022 was 0.7542, a decrease of 5.4% compared to 0.7975 in 2008, making it the second lowest level since 2008. From 2008 to 2022, the openness index of developed economies decreased by 7.7%, while emerging and developing economies increased by 4.8%. Zhang Yuyan, Director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that although the World Open Index has continued its downward trend, the driving force of openness is expected to break the ice: "Technological progress, digital intelligence, and green development have further reduced obstacles to the flow of goods, services, information, and other factors, and improved openness performance." The report shows that Singapore Germany and Hong Kong, China, ranked among the top three in the 2022 World Open Index. From 2008 to 2022, China achieved significant results in expanding its opening up to the outside world, with the opening up index rising from 0.6789 to 0.7517, ranking among the top in the world. The report points out that in 2023, China's economic performance showed a recovery trend, adding confidence and stability to the world economy. While realizing its own development, Chinese path to modernization will inject more positive energy into the recovery of the world economy and provide more stability and new opportunities for building an open world economy. China has interacted and achieved mutual success with the world economy in its open development. The positive interaction between China and the world has become an example of consensual openness, and it also embodies China's goodwill and responsibility to actively open up and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. "said Gu Xueming, Chairman of the Research Center of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum. (New News Agency)
