China ushers in a critical period of 5G large-scale application
2023-11-02
Recently, the 2023 China 5G Development Conference was held in Shanghai, and the information released at the conference showed that China has built the world's largest and technologically advanced 5G network, ushering in a critical period of large-scale application of 5G. 5G network technology is leading, and the new generation of information technology represented by 5G is accelerating its integration into various sectors of the economy and society. It has become a key support for the smooth circulation of data resources and an important engine for leading the intelligent, green, and integrated transformation and upgrading of industries. Zhang Yunming, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, introduced at the 2023 China 5G Development Conference that as of the end of September, China has built and opened 3.189 million 5G base stations, with over 90% of them jointly built and shared. 5G networks are accelerating towards intensive, efficient, green, and low-carbon development. The number of 5G mobile phone users reached 714 million, a net increase of 154 million compared to the end of the previous year, accounting for 41.7% of mobile phone users. There are over 20000 virtual private networks in the 5G industry. At present, 5G applications have been widely integrated into 67 out of 97 national economic categories, and the empowerment of 5G in various industries is becoming increasingly profound. The recently concluded 6th "Blooming Cup" 5G Application Competition has over 45000 entries. Since the "Blooming Cup" was held for six consecutive sessions, a total of over 90000 participating cases have shown that the deployment scenarios of 5G in China are becoming increasingly focused, and high-frequency and high-value applications such as 5G+automatic guided vehicles, 5G+machine vision, and 5G+video surveillance have formed a business model and become a necessary option for the project. Industry, electricity, mining, healthcare, cultural tourism, ports, and smart cities are still the main industries for 5G applications, and the application of 5G in industries such as ocean, low altitude, and traditional Chinese medicine has been explored. Luan Xiaowei, Deputy General Manager of China Telecom, introduced that the number of China Telecom 5G projects has exceeded 20000, covering over 100 scenarios. The number of new projects in 2023 has significantly increased compared to the same period last year. For example, the 5G-Advance smart steel benchmark created by China Telecom in collaboration with Baowu Group has achieved deep integration of 5G and OT networks (used to connect production site equipment and systems), helping Baosteel's domestic PLC (programmable logic controller) flexible transformation. Gao Tongqing, Deputy General Manager of China Mobile, said that China Mobile has signed a total of 30000 5G commercial cases, achieving scale replication in multiple industries. Among them, the top ten domestic container throughput ports have fully implemented 5G business landing; More than 4000 5G smart factory projects; 19 "A+" steel enterprises have cooperated with 16; 540 smart mining expansion projects. Liang Baojun, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom, introduced that China Unicom has built over 24000 5G application commercialization projects, including 12000 in the industrial field and 3500 smart factories. China Unicom has established a new 5G Lightweight (RedCap) industry alliance this year, collaborating with over 100 enterprises such as Schneider, China Shipbuilding, Zhanrui, and Dingqiao to fully promote the maturity and large-scale application of the 5G lightweight industry chain. Zhao Jingbao, Deputy General Manager of China Iron Tower Co., Ltd., introduced that as of the end of September this year, China Iron Tower has undertaken a total of 2.2 million 5G base stations, of which more than 95% have been achieved through sharing existing resources and promoting 5G base stations
