The Chinese guest of honor series of the 2023 Cannes Autumn TV Festival kicked off on the 16th in the coastal city of Cannes in southern France. This is the second time since 2018 that China has made its appearance as a guest of honor at the Cannes Television Festival. Through organizing summit forums, product promotion events, and China joint exhibition booths, China has helped domestic audiovisual products "group together to go overseas". The China Guest of Honor series activities are organized by the Information Office of the State Council of China and the State Administration of Radio and Television of China. They revolve around the theme of "Wonderful China, Infinite Stories" and aim to allow the world to see the infinite possibilities of Chinese stories through audio-visual works. On the opening day of the event, a Summit Forum on Audiovisual Content Production and International Communication was held. Representatives of multiple domestic and foreign industries and heads of audiovisual institutions exchanged and interacted around the three themes of "technology empowerment, digital production", "international collaboration, cultural mutual learning", and "exciting China, infinite stories" to explore the international expression of Chinese stories. Yang Xiaowei, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Radio and Television of China, stated in a speech on site that China adheres to the development concept of putting the people at the center, adheres to integrity and innovation, actively promotes the high-quality development of radio and television network audiovisual, and has achieved significant achievements. In 2022, the actual revenue generated by China's broadcasting and television listening industry exceeded trillion yuan for the first time, with online audiovisual accounting for half of the country. New formats such as short videos and e-commerce live streaming are rapidly developing, with revenue exceeding 300 billion yuan. Li Zhihui, Deputy Director of the External Promotion Bureau of the Central Propaganda Department, said in his speech that in recent years, China's film and television industry has continued to flourish, with increasingly improved creative ability, production technology, and international standards. High quality works are frequently produced, and themed film and television works such as "Wandering Earth" and "Mountains and Seas" are being broadcasted globally. The China Joint Exhibition Stand has built a long-term platform for exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and foreign film and television industries, and has received widespread praise from the industry. From the 16th to the 17th, the China New Works Promotion Conference, the China Animation International Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Conference, and the Cannes Shanghai Audiovisual Boutique Promotion Conference were successively held. A group of domestically produced audio-visual works with diverse themes, innovative models, and innovative technologies will be presented to overseas audiences. It is reported that the total area of the China Joint Exhibition Booth reached 350 square meters, with a total of 35 Chinese broadcasting and television listening institutions and more than 200 representatives participating in the event, promoting more than 200 excellent Chinese audio-visual works. The Cannes Television Festival is held annually in spring and autumn, and is one of the largest and most influential international markets for audiovisual products and digital content trading worldwide.
