The world's first "dual tower, one machine" integrated wind, solar, and thermal storage project has been capped

2023-10-18

The reporter learned from the Three Gorges Group that the world's first "double tower, one machine" integrated solar thermal storage project located in Guazhou County, Gansu Province - the 700000 kilowatt "solar thermal storage+" project of the Three Gorges Hengji Energy Pulse in Guazhou, has recently fully capped the east and west twin towers. Two heat absorption towers, located 1 kilometer from east to west, stand side by side. 73 wind turbines, 48897 photovoltaic module support piles, and 26954 heliostats are being installed in an orderly manner. It is expected that by the end of October this year, the project will complete all wind and photovoltaic construction and meet grid connection conditions. By June 2024, the main construction of the solar thermal project will be completed and grid connection will be achieved. The completion of the project will promote the development of multiple energy joint dispatch modes such as solar thermal power generation, photovoltaic, and wind power generation, and explore new models for the construction of new energy base projects. The biggest innovative highlight of this project is the construction of the world's first 'double tower, one machine' tower type solar thermal power plant. Compared to the single tower, single machine solar thermal energy storage project, the project adopts a double tower, double mirror field design, and the heliostat located in the middle area of the two mirror fields can serve any heat absorption tower, maintaining efficient operation throughout, improving the utilization rate of heat absorption tower light and heat, thereby improving power generation efficiency. According to calculations, the 'double tower, one machine' design is on the same boundary Under certain conditions, it can improve the mirror field efficiency by approximately 23.94% Wen Jianghong, the person in charge of the Three Gorges Energy Guazhou project, said. It is reported that the solar thermal energy storage project mainly uses tens of thousands of heliostats in the field to track the sun's rotation, reflecting sunlight onto the heat absorber at the top of the heat absorption tower. The molten salt in the heat absorber absorbs and stores the accumulated solar thermal energy. The heat energy in the molten salt then converts water into steam, which is used to drive the steam turbine to generate electricity. This power generation method is not affected by changes in light intensity, can continuously and stably produce electricity, has better peak shaving performance, and can participate in primary and secondary frequency regulation of the power grid. It is understood that the "Two Towers, One Machine" solar thermal energy storage project is equipped with a 6-hour molten salt heat storage system, which can convert the fluctuating output of supporting wind and photovoltaic power plants into adjustable power output, improve the power quality of the combined power supply, and promote the overall stable and controllable power generation output. The 700000 kilowatt "solar thermal energy storage+" project of the Three Gorges Hengji Energy Network in Guazhou is one of the first batch of large-scale base construction projects approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration, with a focus on deserts, Gobi, and desert areas. After the completion of the project, the annual power generation will be about 1.8 billion kilowatt hours, which can save 560000 tons of standard coal and reduce 1.53 million tons of carbon dioxide. This will accumulate experience and explore paths for China's construction of the "solar thermal integration" project, and assist in the green transformation of energy development mode.
