Chinese Embassy in the United States Holds a Cultural Salon of "Chinese Peking Opera"

On the 15th, the Chinese Embassy in the United States held the "Chinese Peking Opera" cultural salon event at the Embassy's Public Diplomacy Center. Nearly 100 guests from all walks of life from the United States participated, experiencing the artistic charm of Peking Opera performances up close and immersive. The event was co organized by the local organization "Flower of Peking Opera" in Washington and the Embassy Experience Association. Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Jing Quan, attended the event. The staff of the "Flower of Peking Opera" in Washington showcased the makeup process of the character "Guifei" and various costumes and props in Peking Opera to the guests, and introduced the history and cultural connotations of Peking Opera to the audience. On the salon, the actors of "The Flower of Peking Opera" also showcased the basic skills of singing, reciting, doing, and playing in Peking Opera through excerpts from songs such as "Hu Jia Zhuang", "Empty City Plan", "Troubles in the Heavenly Palace", and "Drunken Consort". The Beijing Opera band performed "Little Open Door" to the live audience using instruments such as the Jinghu and Xiaogong. Under the guidance of the staff, the audience went on stage to personally experience the horse, elderly step, hand eye body, small gong, and water sleeve performances in Beijing Opera. On site audience Nazarenko stated that the art of Beijing Opera is very attractive and has opened her eyes. What is particularly impressive is the implicit and tactful expression of traditional Chinese art, which provides more imagination space for the audience. Gregory Brand, CEO of the Embassy Experience Association, one of the organizers of the event, told reporters that this is the first time in 20 years that the association has held a Beijing Opera related event, and Beijing Opera is very unique and exciting. He believes that such cultural activities will have a positive impact on Americans' understanding of Chinese people and culture, and will help promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.
